Sweet Pea's Story

Sweet Pea and Foot were transferred from the Haywood County shelter. They were taken to the shelter after their person was removed from the home to have open heart surgery and the house was to be condemned.<br/><br/>Sweet Pea was underweight and was found to have untreated hyperthyroidism. She is now on medication and is now at a good weight. She is painful in her hindquarters and benefits from supplements for arthritis.<br/><br/>Sweet Pea is very sweet indeed and would love to be in a home where she can be a part of the family. Sadly, Foot developed an aggressive form of oral cancer and was humanely euthanized so Sweet Pea is now a single lady.

After reviewing the application, either the director or the animal care coordinator calls the potential adopter and conducts a phone interview. A home visit is sometimes conducted and, if the adopter is approved, arrangements are made for the adopter to meet the cat (s)he is interested in adopting. If it's a good match, the adopter pays the adoption fee, signs an adoption contract, and the cat goes to its new home.
