Sugar's Story

Sugar had a rough start. She was rescued by a wonderful resident of Staten Island when he noticed his neighborhood strays started looking worse for wear. It became obvious that someone regularly lured Sugar with food to mistreat her.

While in quarantine, she would rub up against her foster's legs and meow for food, but then smack away or nip at hands reaching for pets. We thought she might be too feral, until she met the resident cats and she howled with joy that she wasn't alone. Her desperation for companionship told us she could be socialized after all! As we used wand toys to get her accustomed to touch and chin scritches, she slowly started to open up. Now her petal-shaped elf ears turn bright pink whenever she's happy!

Sugar is an extrovert and takes every opportunity to cuddle with our resident cats. She also loves to play with string and wand toys, often holding them in her mouth and calling friends to come play with her, and it will be your solemn duty as her new parent to answer her call! She is very talkative and will be very happy to hear you trill back at her and tell her about your day. She has at last learned that hands are for pets and scritches and giving food! Her progress is truly wonderful and we think she would do best with an attentive and patient household. Do you have a spot saved for Sugar in your heart and home?

She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and FELF/FIV negative.
