Stocking's Story

Stocking and his brother Ribbon were brought to us as surrenders. The family had taken them in for about 3 days and tried to find them homes. They were unsuccessful, so the kittens were brought to us. Stocking is a little less social than his brother but just as friendly when you give him attention.

The adoption fee of $50 is a refundable deposit. The adopter will be responsible to have the animal spayed or neutered within 90 days at the clinic of their choosing. If this is completed within the required 90 days the adopter is to submit required documentation that includes a spay/neuter certificate, a receipt for the spay/neuter, and a rabies certificate to get their refund of up to the deposited amount. Spay and Neuter is required for adoption per our adoption contract and by Indiana State Law. We accept cash, card (with a 3% charge), and check.

All adopters must bring a cat carrier, otherwise they will need to purchase one from us for $20. All adoptions are first come, first serve.

All cats receive at least 1 feline vaccine. All animals receive a flea and parasite prevention/treatment and will be microchipped.

All animals can go home the same day as adoption. We will need your photo ID and you will sign some documents. Adopters will also receive a copy of the animal's medical history to date. We do not do an application process. All adoptions are first come, first serve. We do not offer holds.

City of Rushville Animal Shelter's Adoption Policy
The adoption process is fairly simple. We do have a few requirements for adopters, but nothing that should make the adoption process impossible. -Adoption fees can be paid for by cash, check, or card. There is a 3% charge for card transactions. -Holds are not accepted, all adoptions are first-come, first-served -If you have another dog at home, bring them along if you wish for us to do a dog intro (some of the dogs in our care will require a dog intro) -All cats must leave in a carrier. You may purchase one from us for $20. The carrier we sell is soft-sided fabric that is collapsible -Currently, any animal that is already spayed or neutered has a FREE adoption fee. -Currently, any animal that is NOT already spayed or neutered has a deposit fee that is required to be paid at the time of adoption. The adopter will be required to get the pet spayed or neutered within 90 days of adoption. If done and documents are returned to us, the adopter will get their deposit refunded. -Any donations above and beyond are always welcome! We use donation money to spay and neuter before adoption, vaccinate, treat basic illness and injuries, and so much more! We encourage and allow home trials at no cost. Typically starting for about a week. This is a great way to determine if a pet is right for your family and home without committing.
