Stevie's Story
Stevie – Stevie is a wonder.

Stevie is a 4 month old kitten who is very quiet little lady with a gentle heart and a strong sense of personal space. She's a shy, cautious girl who prefers to watch the world from a comfortable distance and decide for herself when she's ready to take the next step. Her progress has been incredibly slow, but every tiny step forward is a big accomplishment for Stevie.

Stevie is not a kitten who will immediately greet you at the door or happily be scooped up for cuddles. Being approached or picked up is still very overwhelming for her, and she may panic when handled. Even heavy petting can make her nervous right now. She needs a quiet, patient home with someone who understands that earning her trust will take time and is willing to let her set the pace without expecting her to become a lap cat overnight.

That doesn't mean Stevie doesn't want companionship. She likes knowing what's going on and will often stay in the same room with you, quietly observing from her chosen safe spot. And when nighttime rolls around and you're lying down, that's when Stevie's rules change. She regularly curls up right on top of you for a cozy nighttime snuggle. Apparently, horizontal humans are much more trustworthy than vertical ones! It's one of the clearest ways Stevie shows that she does want to be close to her person, she just wants that closeness entirely on her terms and it's a beautiful glimpse of the affection she may be capable of sharing as her confidence grows.

She's also slowly learning that people can bring good things. It has taken a tremendous amount of courage for Stevie to approach closely enough to accept Churu or whipped cream from a finger, and even now she'll carefully stretch as far as she can while making sure you can't quite reach her. She's cautious, but she's trying. Every once in a while, her kitten side wins and she'll play or get a little silly before remembering that she has a reputation to maintain.
