Smokey Joe's Story
Neutered Male
17 Years Old
14 Pounds
$0

Smokey Joe is a 17-year-old neutered male Domestic Shorthair with a handsome gray-and-white coat and a solid 14-pound frame. This distinguished senior gentleman has spent his entire life in one loving home with an older adult and his litter mate, Tootsie.

Understandably, Smokey Joe is very unhappy and overwhelmed in the shelter. He doesn’t understand why he’s here and would much rather be left alone right now. The noise and change have been a lot for him, and he’ll likely choose to hide when he first arrives in a new home. He will need plenty of time, patience, and space to adjust at his own pace.

Smokey Joe is good with other cats and would truly love to be adopted with Tootsie if possible—they’ve been lifelong companions and a familiar face would mean the world to him. However, he can go to a home on his own, as long as his adopter understands that trust will take time.

This sweet senior boy isn’t asking for much—just a quiet home, a soft place to land, and someone compassionate enough to let him feel safe again. With gentle understanding and a calm environment, Smokey Joe will slowly realize he’s home.

If you believe that senior cats deserve comfort, dignity, and love in their golden years, Smokey Joe is waiting for you.

At the Humane Society of Midland County, all animals adopted will be spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations prior to an adoption. Dogs over 6 months of age will be heartworm tested, and any dog with a positive test will receive treatment at no additional cost.

No Appointment Needed to Meet Adoptable Animals!
We have open adoption hours, and walk-ins are always welcome! While filling out an application lets us know you're interested in adopting, it does not hold an animal, and applications are not required to meet the available animals. We do highly recommend and may require you to bring any dogs that reside in the same household, or that will be around commonly if you are meeting a new dog companion.

Want to Know if I’m Still Available?
Call the shelter at (989)-835-1877 to confirm my availability. If you’d like to show you’re thinking about adopting, please fill out an application on our website under "Adopt" at www.hsomc.org.

Open Adoption Hours:

Tuesday & Wednesday: Noon – 6 pm

Thursday & Friday: Noon – 7 pm

Saturday: Noon – 4 pm

I’m located at the Humane Society of Midland County, 4371 E Ashman St, Midland, MI 48642.

We can’t wait to meet you and help you find your new best friend!
