Slater - FIV+ and VERY cuddly's Story

Hi, I’m Slater - a big, approximately five year old, soft-hearted boy just looking for someone to love.

Life didn’t start out easy for me. I had to survive on my own for a while, finding food where I could and protecting myself. I got hurt along the way, but a kind human saw me and made sure I got the care I needed. Even after all that, I still believe people are good and I’m ready to give my whole heart to someone special.

My favorite place in the world? Right on your lap. I’ll gently climb up, rest my paws on your shoulders, and purr like a little engine. Sometimes I get so happy I drool just a tiny bit. I can’t help it! I am also content curled up on the couch near you or on the cat climber watching you. I love giving nose kisses, head bumps, and following you around so I can always be near you. I just really love being loved.

I’m an outgoing guy who loves meeting new people. I will happily greet visitors by brushing against their legs and asking for attention. I still like to play, too! I have this felt fish toy that I absolutely adore. I carry it around, play with it, and even sleep with it sometimes. I also enjoy lying in the sun, watching birds, squirrels, and all the outdoor activity from the catio, cat climber or cat window seat in my foster home. Even though I’m a big guy, I’m pretty nimble. I might even surprise you with a graceful jump just to come say hi.

I do well with kids, even small children, as long as they are respectful and treat me gently with love. I’m also learning that the large dog in my foster home is actually a friend, not a predator, and I continue to grow more comfortable every day. I may even enjoy having a feline, FIV+ companion.

I’m a good boy with great litter box manners and a healthy appetite. I’m neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and all cleaned up from my rough days outside. My wounds are healing nicely. I did test positive for FIV, but I’ll be retested soon.

What I really want now is simple: a warm home, a soft place to rest, and a human (or family!) to call my own. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate companion who will greet you at the door and always be by your side, I think we might be perfect for each other.

Slater has FIV. Please read more about this here: https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951815. His adoption comes with a phone consult with a veterinarian to answer any questions you might have about FIV. He must be an indoor only cat with no exceptions, and can only go to a home with either no other cats or other FIV + cats. FIV cats can successfully and safely be adopted into homes with negative cats, but we do not know if Slater likes other cats. FIV is only spread thru bite wounds and blood contact with other cats.

Please head to our website to fill out an application prior to setting up a meet. Once your adoption application is approved we will contact you to set up a meeting. http://nwac-oregon.org/adoption-application/

The $140 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, microchips, worming and flea treatment, current vaccines for their age, a negative FIV/FELV test (unless otherwise noted), and a vet exam.

Northwest Animal Companions is an all-volunteer, non-profit, foster-home based rescue. 100% of your adoption fee goes to provide the medical and physical needs of the pets in our care.
