Simon's Story
Simon came to us in 2021 as a shy, oh-so-unhappy boy. He had been dumped out of his home, his family moved away, and he was left to fend for himself. During this time, he was attacked by another cat. A kind neighbor noticed him struggling and took him to the shelter. At the shelter, he received a medical exam, and a huge wound was found on his side along with a growth. This boy was so sweet and gentle. He was already neutered, so they went ahead and repaired the wound and removed the growth. He was then tested for FIV/FELV, and unfortunately, he was found to be FIV positive. It was obvious from the wound that he had been attacked by another cat because there was not an aggressive bone in his body. He was just sweet and timid. After he was all up, one of the volunteers began to spend time with him, and she reached out to us. We had the perfect foster home for him, and so he came to live in Santa Cruz. Unfortunately, during transport, he escaped his kennel and ran into the neighborhood of his foster home. We were all frantic to find him as he was still healing from his surgery. Posters were put up, and neighbors were contacted, and everyone was searching for this boy. After a week, a call was received from one of the neighbors, and he said that a cat was matching Simon's description that was eating his cat's food. Of course, then the race was on. A trap was set, and within a few hours, he was captured, given a quick exam, and was off to his foster home.

As the weeks went by, he started to settle in with the love that was being showered upon him by his foster parents. They had no other cats, so he was the center of attention. He seemed to be frightened of men, which tells us that his experiences with men were not all that great. It took him over 2 years to realize that men were ok and start to feel comfortable with his foster dad.

Simon is sweet and charming and just very chill. One of his favorite activities is sitting on his enclosed patio and sniffing the air and the flowers. This is truly his happy place besides being on his foster mom's lap. He never tries to get away; he just sits in the chair and watches life go by. He is a true joy as a companion. Simon is also a great "uncle." Over the last few years has watched several of his foster friends get adopted as he waits patiently.
