Shortbread's Story

Say hello to Shortbread, who knows his name as Buddy, a magnificently fluffy 3-year-old who bears a striking resemblance to a Maine Coon and comes with the chattiness to match! This lovable 15-pound love bug is an equal-opportunity conversationalist who'll shower you with meows and companionship throughout the day. While he's not the type to curl up in your lap, Shortbread is happiest when his favorite humans are nearby, keeping him company while he supervises (very seriously) from his favorite perch.

Shortbread had a difficult transition in his last placement, struggling with stress-related behaviors including some accidents outside the litter box. Here's what we've learned: he's a sensitive soul who needs an owner who understands him. Shortbread thrives with a slow, low-pressure introduction and bonds with the people he trusts. His recent cardiac checkup showed he's in good health, but will need bloodwork every few years to check his health. Shortbread has proved he can peacefully coexist with other cats when given proper adjustment time.

An experienced, patient cat parent who appreciates a large, affectionate companion and won't mind the regular grooming this fluffy fellow needs to look his best. Shortbread deserves a quiet home without young children, ideally without high-energy dogs, where someone is around enough to give him the consistency and reassurance that helps him feel secure. If you can offer understanding and his own room during his adjustment period while also being willing to work through his anxiety with calm, compassionate support, Shortbread will reward you with devoted companionship.

If you’d like to take this kitty home, please fill out an adoption application at this link – https://animalalliesrescue.org/cat-application. The adoption fee is $150 and covers all expenses needed to prepare kitties like this one for their forever homes. By the time you meet them, they’ve already been spayed/neutered (if age-appropriate) and microchipped. They’ve been checked by a veterinarian and are up to date on age-appropriate immunizations against rabies and FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus & panleukopenia). Some of our cats have even undergone extensive medical care to ensure they’re ready for a happy, healthy life with you!
