SHIROMISO's Story
Shiromiso

This friendly and fabulous five-year-old fella spent several months living as a stray in Caledonia before he finally came onto our radar. He was TNR’d in June, at which time he tested FIV-positive, but wasn’t brought indoors until he became ill in November of 2025, prompting an urgent need for medical care. Luckily his condition wasn’t critical and he rebounded nicely.
Shiromiso officially entered our program on December 9th, where I completed his full medical workup. X-rays revealed that this poor guy had suffered a severe traumatic injury at some point in his past—one that fractured his right hip and caused significant chronic changes within the joint. Interestingly, he shows no obvious lameness, which tells me the injury occurred long ago and that he adapted remarkably well. His right upper canine was also fractured, strongly suggesting he may have been struck by a vehicle.
Adding to his list of battle scars, when I removed him from his carrier, I inadvertently placed my hand directly into a large open wound on his sternum. Thankfully, it was superficial and not a penetrating chest injury. With a few weeks of diligent topical therapy, systemic antibiotics, and regular wound care, the lesion healed beautifully. To look at him now, living life to the fullest, you would never guess what a troublesome past he has had.
________________________________________
From His Caretaker, Tereza
“I'm so glad he's there with you. He was in a sad state when I got him fixed—very skinny, scared, dirty, cracked dry paws, lots of scabs and scratches and ticks. Now he's fat and sassy. He is such a good boy. He loves to be brushed, petted, picked up, and carried around. He comes when he's called (Miso). He's a lover. It was hard for my grandma to give him up. After I took him to the vet last month, I had him inside for observation and we felt too bad to put him back out in the cold garage once he was better. I did get to see him interact with cats and a dog indoors, and he did much better than I expected. He was aggressive and territorial outside but didn’t show any aggression inside—even when swatted at.”
________________________________________
From Our Shelter Manager
“Shiromiso—if anyone is worthy of The Sweetest Cat Award, it’s this guy. He is the best. It’s so sweet how he sits back and literally waits his turn for pets and scratches. Once approached, his eyes get as big as saucers, and he just can’t get enough of you. He should do just fine with a friend or two and will absolutely need a family that gives him plenty of attention. He thrives on it, commandeers it, demands it, deserves it.”
________________________________________
Shiromiso has clearly left his rough outdoor days behind him and is embracing indoor life with his whole heart. Despite past trauma, illness, and hardship, he has emerged as an affectionate, gentle, people-loving cat who simply wants to be close to those he loves.
This FIV-positive sweetheart is ready for a home that will cherish him, spoil him, and give him all the attention he has waited so patiently to receive. 💙
