Shelly's Story

Shelly was brought into a home from the outdoors by a Good Samaritan. Shelly was home with this individual until recently. The owner had to tend to severe medical conditions that they won't be home for an extended period of time. Shelly and her friends, Lilah & Kya, were regretfully surrendered to us so their owner could take care of themselves.

Shelly and Lilah are sisters. We were told they are bonded although at the rescue, they have done well individually and adapted to other kitty neighbors. We believe they would do great together or with another cat in the home (with proper slow introductions). They took to their friend Kya when she moved in quickly.

In her former home, Shelly presented as very affectionate and playful. She loved her laser light toy and chasing her sister, Lilah. She also enjoyed her back end and tail rubbed. Shelly gave her former owner head butts to show her affection and occasionally nibbled on her finger; what we like to call a 'love bite'. Some of her other favorite past times include sunbathing, grooming her human friends, playing with wand toys, climbing, and perching.

When Shelly and Lilah came to the rescue, their stress levels were quite high and they needed space and time to adjust. We expect this to be the case when they move into a new home as well so a patient family who will let them come to you as they feel ready would be incredibly helpful for them to feel safe and secure in their new home.

We are told Shelly is afraid of dogs although we do not have specifics on what those interactions look(ed) like.. She has been around children as young as 9yo with appropriate interactions. Shelly is currently on Purina Cat Chow Naturals and loves salmon treats.

These girls are shyer than most cats we have moved up to Pet Supplies Plus so please approach them slowly and respect their communication. Our adoption process is simple, relationship-centered, and provides supportive education. You can expect your adoption interest to go like this:
1. Submit your electronic form
2. An AEL representative will contact you to schedule a phone call or adoption counsel session.
3. Come to your adoption counsel session to meet the pet you're interested in and ready to take them home with you (dependent on the pet, some need more than one meet)
4. If the pet is determined to be a good fit with your family by both you and the AEL representative, you will sign your contract, submit your adoption payment, and take your new friend home!

Let us know you're interested here: http://tinyurl.com/AELadoptionsquad
