Sesame & Shine (Bonded Pair)'s Story

Hi, we’re Shine & Sesame — an unlikely pair of best friends looking for a forever home together!

Sometimes in rescue, cats choose their own families — and that’s exactly what happened with us.

Sesame arrived at Pet Angel in May of 2025 under heartbreaking circumstances. On the first 80 degree day in Frankenmuth, someone dumped her outside the rescue in a tiny cage, alongside a sealed Rubbermaid tote containing her six 6-week-old kittens. When volunteers arrived for the evening shift, they discovered Sesame and her babies and rushed them safely inside. Sesame was sent to foster care where she lovingly raised her kittens until they were old enough to be adopted.

A few months later, Shine arrived at Pet Angel as a tiny kitten herself. Shine was pulled from another rescue after Pet Angel took in another orphaned kitten named Ray who needed a friend his age. Shine and Ray grew up together and became inseparable kitten companions.

But as time went on and the kittens grew older, Shine began forming a very special connection with Sesame. The two started seeking each other out constantly — grooming one another, sleeping curled together, and choosing each other’s company over all the other cats in the room. While Ray remained friendly with everyone, Shine made it very clear who her best friend truly was: Sesame.

Today, Shine and Sesame spend their days side by side and are looking for a forever home where they can stay together.

Shine is the younger (DOB:08/15/2025,) smaller half of the duo with the softest fur and the prettiest green eyes. She is absolutely obsessed with pom pom balls — seriously, it could probably be considered a full-time hobby at this point! She will chase, carry, throw, and hyper-fixate on pom poms for hours. Shine also loves cat TV and will sit far too close to the screen to make sure she doesn’t miss a single bird or squirrel. She adores tunnels, cozy hideouts, and being groomed by the other cats — especially Sesame. Shine is playful, curious, gentle, and sweet.

Sesame (DOB: 11/13/2023) is a former mama cat who is now ready to spend the rest of her life being somebody else’s baby. She is a soft medium-haired girl with a fluffy tail and an even softer personality. Sesame enjoys wrestling with feline friends, zooming after springs and crinkle balls, lounging in comfy beds, and curling up beside Shine for naps and grooming sessions. While she can be shy with people at first, once she realizes you are safe, she warms up beautifully and enjoys belly rubs and brushing. Sesame greatly prefers the company of other cats and truly thrives when she has a feline companion nearby — which is one of the reasons her bond with Shine has become so special.

Sesame does have a medical condition that her future family should be aware of. In 2025, after one of her kittens unexpectedly passed away, Pet Angel pursued extensive cardiac testing on Sesame and her remaining kittens. While Sesame does not currently have HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), testing revealed that she does have an enlarged heart, meaning she is at risk for developing HCM later in life. At this time, she does not require medication, but she will need veterinary checkups every 6 months to monitor her heart health and ensure everything remains stable. Pet Angel took the extra step to perform these tests so her future family could be fully informed and prepared to provide the care she may need in the future. Please don’t let Sesame’s enlarged heart scare you away — after all, it just means she has even more heart to love with.

Shine and Sesame both do wonderfully with other cats and would thrive in a calm, loving indoor-only home. Sesame has previously been exposed to a dog and was not fearful, and Shine would likely also do well with a calm dog with a low prey drive and proper introductions. They would also do well with respectful children.

Both girls are fixed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and negative for FIV/FELV. They are currently available for adoption through Pet Angel Adoption & Rescue in Frankenmuth and are looking for a forever home together within the state of Michigan.

If you would like to meet Shine & Sesame and see if you might be their perfect match, please read about our adoption process and submit an application online at https://petangeladoption.com/adopt-a-cat
