SCAT BAKULA's Story

From Dracula to Scat Bakula: A Special Guy Gets a New Name — and a New Lease on Life

If you know me, you know I don’t like to repeat names. Each cat in our program is unique and deserves their own individualized identity. It may be a quirk of mine, but I rarely go with the obvious — I put a lot of thought into the naming process.
So, while I completely understood why this fine white fellow (born around April 2023) was named Dracula when he arrived at Second Chapter Rescue on October 30, 2025, I had a small dilemma. Our rescue had previously cared for an amazing black beauty named Drac, and I try not to reuse names — especially when I’m convinced the cats recognize what they’re called.

Time to put on the thinking cap.

Then it hit me: Scat Bakula!

While this handsome boy didn’t exactly time-travel, he did make a leap from one rescue to another in hopes of finding the bright future he deserves — so the name felt perfect.

Now never mind that he’s positive for Feline Leukemia Virus. Scat certainly doesn’t care… and neither do we! His intake exam on January 6, 2026, showed excellent lab work and beautiful x-rays. In every way that matters, he’s a happy, healthy guy.

Because of his viral status, Scat qualifies for our Forever Foster a Feleuk Program, which helps offset medical costs for adopters. It’s an amazing program designed to make it easier for wonderful cats like Scat to find loving homes — truly a win-win for everyone.

And what a fun boy he is!

Scat Bakula is a busy cat. He has made it perfectly clear that he would much rather be playing than being picked up or held. He’s full of enthusiasm and would absolutely love a feline friend or two to run and wrestle with.
Underneath all that playful energy is a sweet, engaging personality that would make him a great match for a home with older kids who want an active, entertaining companion.

To say we adore him would be a serious understatement.
