Santa Maria's Story

She is gentle, silly at times, loves to sleep/nap (especially up high on the top of the kitchen cabinets or in the cat tree), has the cutest little meow, which at times may surprise you because she sounds like a baby kitten. She is living at Casa de ARWOB, which means she lives with her daughters Pinta and La Nina. They are almost a carbon copy of their mother, BUT the difference is the nose color and the white markings on the face. Santa needs to be adopted into a home with other cats or a single cat. She tends to bully her daughter Pinta – in fact, both Santa and Nina bully Pinta for some reason, which means we would love to find a separate foster for Pinta and another foster for Santa and Nina. Santa does NOT bully any of the other cats living at Casa de ARWOB, so it seems to be a “family matter.” Santa is the type of cat who is gentle, calm and smart. She spends most of the day on her own, but several times a day she will come and find you by jumping into your lap. This is when she is seeking loving pets/kisses. She will occasionally also chill by your computer when you are working. She will randomly get the zoomies and play with toys on the floor, specifically anything large like a tennis ball so she can do the bunny kick. We believe she was likely a great hunter as a past stray, so she just loves the laser pointer and feather wands that she can “hunt.” She is super loving and will jump up on the counter in the morning to greet you. Santa is also a very clean kitty with excellent litter box skills.
Santa Maria would be a great cat for anyone that wants just ONE pet in the home. She does live with other cats and won’t take any sass from the other felines, but she won’t start anything either (at least not among the other dozen cats living at Casa de ARWOB). She has zero interest in dogs, so when a foster dog enters the room, she quickly excuses herself and gets up high on the counters. She is not stressed or bothered by the dogs. She is just not interested in being friends with them at all. We suspect she would be great with children, as she is easy to approach and doesn’t mind being picked up or petted. BE AWARE that she is the first cat to run and hide when people enter the home. She will either jump high on the kitchen cabinet or get inside the cabinet under the sink, closing the door behind her. Ha, ha! Consequently we expect that she will not show well with potential adopters, so do NOT expect fireworks when you meet her. If you are choosing a forever pet based on the initial interaction or a “connection” with her, you will NOT find that with Santa Maria. It will take her days if not a week to gain trust and start roaming the room or around the house. We would like to find someone that is interested in a foster-to-adopt trial for 2 weeks or more. We need someone who understands this kind of personality and will help her feel comfortable over time, by helping her to come out of her shell so she can bond with her human(s). Santa is healthy, up to date on medical, spayed, and has tested negative for FeLV/FIV. If you are interested in this beautiful sweet girl, please fill out an online application at ARWOB.org right away!If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application.
Dog Adoption Application
Cat Adoption Application

PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application.
Military Questionnaire

Animal Rescuers Without Borders,Inc.'s Adoption Policy
The A.R.W.O.B. group prides itself on carefully placing animals into responsible and loving homes. We care about the present and future lives of the many unwanted dogs and cats and strive to improve them so they can come to know stability, love and safety. For more information, please visit our website at www.arwob.org. Our adoption procedure is as follows: 1) Adoption Application filed by applicant (visit the applications page to fill one out!). We typically adopt dogs and cats to individuals or families located in San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles areas. However, we may consider potential adopters within California, Arizona, and Nevada (within a reasonable driving distance) under certain circumstances. We require that the application be approved ahead of time and a home check must be done via FaceTime Skype (we do not accept videos for this purpose). We would also require the potential adopter to come to San Diego to meet the animal in person and we recommend bringing any current pet(s) to see if they will get along. If the potential adopter opts out of the meet-n-greet with their existing animal(s) and if the new pet does not get along with their existing pets, we would require the adopter to drive back to San Diego to return the animal -- we cannot provide transportation. Our adoptions are time sensitive and our policy is that we do not place holds on any of our rescues. PLEASE NOTE: We have implemented a new policy for those who are currently serving in the military. IF YOU ARE IN THE MILITARY please fill out a short questionnaire in addition to the adoption application. 2) A play date between the applicant and rescue (dog or cat). An applicant MUST have an APPROVED online adoption application filed BEFORE scheduling a playdate at the animal's foster home. The playdate will ensure that the potential adopter and the dog/ cat they are interested in is the right match. If the dog/cat does not possess the qualities and behavioral traits the applicant is looking for, we can continue the adoption process by meeting another rescued dog or cat. You can also meet the animal you are interested in at scheduled adoption events. Approved applicants have priority to meet an animal over others. Please read the events page for more information about meeting an animal at an event and possibly taking them home afterward. 3) Home checks to ensure the safety of our rescues (If applicable). An ARWOB volunteer will contact you upon approval of your application (and the playdate appointment) to schedule a visit to your home. Here we will take a look at where the cat/dog will be living. Your home and yard must be safe and secure. 4) Adoption Contract and ID from applicant If everything checks out during the homecheck and we believe our rescued dog/ cat will live happily there, we will go ahead and sign the adoption contract to makes the adoption official. 5) Adoption fee Fees are different for both dogs and cats and are based on age and, sometimes, on the breed. Please visit the adoption fees page for a break down of all. 6) Denial of adoption applications We screen all of our adoption applications thoroughly in order to find the perfect home for our rescues. There may be times when we feel the adopter is not a good fit based on the answer to questions on their application. Please know that we vet each applicant with the animal's best interest in mind. In the event that your application is denied, you will receive an email letting you know of our decision. However, we will not be able to answer detailed questions regarding the denial.
