Sable's Story
Hello, my name is Sable! I am looking for a gentle, loving human to call my very own!

In the beginning of 2025, I showed up in Pet Angel’s President, Nancy’s yard as a stray cat. I wasn’t friendly, but when they started feeding me, I said “ok, I’ll stick around.” She and her family started calling me Sable, and when they kept feeding me, I made their shed my new home. At first, I slept on a tarp. Then they found out I was sleeping in the shed, and a cat bed appeared! I spent months eating the food they’d leave me, skirting around them when they were outside, and sleeping in my cat bed in their shed. I’d let them start getting closer and closer to me until one day in the summer, Nancy’s husband Jim was outside doing yard work and I decided ‘Ya know what… I actually think I like you now.” When he sat down and spoke gently to me, I walked right over to him and let him pet me. Then I flopped over and asked for a belly rub. And just like that, I became friends with the Engel family.

The Engel’s set me up with a outdoor cat house, and fed me multiple times a day. I had dry food down all the time, but wet food and even cooked chicken was brought out to me morning and night. I quickly learned our routine, and figured out that when they called out “Sable!!!” they were calling ME to come and eat my food! I loved hunting, and would leave birds and mice and chipmunks for the Engel’s, even though they weren’t very grateful I was providing them dinner. I also loved to climb trees, and when they would get home from being somewhere, I would get so excited I’d sprint up a tree.

Jim and Nancy live across from Jim’s mom, so I made both houses and property my own and I stopped venturing away from their two homes, visiting both Engel Family members whenever they would come outside. One day, while Jim was visiting with his mom on her porch, she left her front door open and I took it as an opportunity to scope out her house… I walked right in the front door! I did a lap around her whole house, just checking everything out while they watched me from a distance. I really said “wowww, this is noiiiiiceee!!!” but decided to go back outside. I wasn’t ready to be a house cat yet.

But then it started to get cold. That’s when I moved into their garage, where they set me up with a space heater and a heated bed. I thought ‘ok, this is cool, I can live here.’ Until a possum found out about my secret new home and thought he’d move in too… so I was sharing a garage with a possum. And that’s when the Engel’s decided it was time I became a fully indoor only cat. Their cat didn’t want me to move into their house, and Jim’s mom is allergic to cat’s so I couldn’t move in there. And that’s how I ended up at Pet Angel!

When the Engel’s found me and brought me to their vet, it was discovered I was already fixed! So at some point in my life, I once belonged to somebody, but even talking to everyone in the neighborhood, nobody ever claimed me. The Engel’s paid for the rest of my vetting, so I’m up to date on all my shots and negative for FIV/FELV. They even treated me for fleas and ticks before I moved to the rescue, so I’m 100% healthy and bug free and fully ready to be an indoor only cat! I do have one weird rib that the vet thinks is from a previous injury that healed weird. It doesn’t cause me any pain or discomfort, but when you rub my belly you can feel it.

I am a SWEETHEART. I love attention, and rub up against your legs purring and asking for your love. I roll over for belly rubs, and let you pick me up! I make biscuits ALL the time! I love to purr, and purr often! When I’m happy, I even drool (warning, I WILL drool on you!) I know my name, and come when you call me! I love my heated cat bed (even living inside, I love this freaking bed!) and I also have a cat bed that looks like a couch that I am obsessed with! Since I once used to hunt, I don’t really get the hype about cat toys, but sometimes a catnip toy will get me and I’ll bat it around or kick it with my back legs! I LOVE cat treats and wet food! I only like chunky wet food, and get it twice a day every day! I also eat dry food that is down for me all the time. I ADORE cat treat time, and if you’re eating chicken, I’m going to want a piece of it!!! I get a little spooked with loud noises, people wearing heavy shoes, or when you come at me quickly, but once I know you’re not going to hurt me, I settle down again. I am truly a gentle, sweet, loving boy who is ready for my 100% indoor only life where I will be pampered and cuddled and loved! Let me be very clear, I NEED to be a indoor only cat moving forward!

I do not like dogs. I would do best as a single cat, but might get along with other gentle cats. However, I have not met other cats at Pet Angel one-on-one. I see them and have no problems though, so with a proper introduction, it might go well! I would also do great with kids over the age of 10. I am fixed, microchipped, up to date on all my shots, and tested negative for FIV/FELV. I am looking for a STRICTLY indoor-only home! If you would like to meet me (and let me drool on you while you rub my belly) please submit an application online at https://petangeladoption.com/adopt-a-cat
