Sable's Story

🐾 Meet Sable: She Will Absolutely Bomb the Interview 😂

We need to start Sable’s bio with an important disclaimer:

Sable is probably going to bomb her adoption interview.

Seriously. The Sable you meet during a meet-and-greet is probably NOT going to be the Sable you eventually have at home.

Sable is a beautiful dilute tortie who is incredibly sweet and affectionate once she feels safe. But with new people, she is very shy and skittish. She especially doesn’t like it when unfamiliar people are standing up or walking around.

You may sit down and think you’re making progress, then stand up and Sable is suddenly like, “EXCUSE ME. Why are you enormous now?!” 😂

She may back away. She may go find somewhere she feels safer. She may watch you suspiciously from across the room like you’ve just violated the terms of your employment.

She’s not aggressive. She’s just scared and unsure.

And unfortunately, that means meeting Sable for 20 or 30 minutes isn’t going to show you who she really is.

Give her a little time, though, and everything changes.

In our experience, it usually takes Sable about a week or two to settle in, learn the routine, and realize that these new humans apparently live here and are not planning her demise.

And then you start meeting the real Sable.

That Sable is sweet, affectionate, playful, funny, and absolutely capable of becoming a lap cat. She has gotten comfortable enough with us that I can even trim her nails and handle her feet, which is basically the feline equivalent of handing someone your Social Security number and PIN. 😂

Sable does well with other cats and has even done well with kittens, although she can play a little rough and she definitely has opinions about her feline roommates. Because she can get overwhelmed by lots of activity and people moving around, we think she would be happiest in a calmer, more predictable home where she can settle in at her own pace.

So if you’re looking for a cat who will walk into a meet-and-greet, immediately climb into your lap, turn on the charm, and convince you she’s The One...

Sable ain’t your girl. 😂

She is going to be awkward. She is going to be shy. Her interview skills are frankly terrible.

But if you’re willing to look past the disastrous interview and give this girl a little time to decompress, you may discover that the cat you meet on Day 10 is completely different from the cat you met on Day 1.

Don’t overlook Sable because she doesn’t impress you at the meet-and-greet. Give her the chance to show you who she really is.

Because once Sable decides you’re safe, THAT’S when you finally get to meet Sable. ❤️🐾
