RugRat (Now at LCPA!) 's Story

Meet RugRat! He is a soft-spoken little gentleman who is still learning that humans can be safe and wonderful. He came into rescue a bit late for ideal socialization, so he is naturally cautious and very observant. Once he realizes he understands the “rules” of a space and what is expected of him, you can see him relax and start to blossom. He does best with a clear routine, predictable expectations, and a calm, patient person who lets him come out of his shell at his own pace.

This boy is all about play. Some cats are food motivated, but Rugrat's heart belongs to toys. Anything that moves is his favorite: balls, toy mice, wand toys, whatever he can chase and catch. Get a game going, and his little motor starts right up. He also adores other cats and really takes his social cues from them. He will start purring the second his favorite big, fluffy foster sister walks into the room and is absolutely smitten with her. He is shy with people on his own, yet when he is around confident, people-friendly cats, he relaxes, watches how they interact, and slowly copies them.

RugRat is not generally rough or aggressive. He is gentle and polite, keeps his claws sheathed during normal handling, and simply needs regular, kind contact to keep building his confidence. In his ideal home, he would have at least one friendly resident cat, a quiet environment, and a human who can commit to daily hands-on time: around twenty minutes of calm cuddle and petting practice plus another twenty minutes of interactive play. With structure, patience, and lots of playtime, RugRat has every bit of potential to become a loving, devoted companion.

RugRat does get bite-y and grabby once he relaxes into a good petting session, so it's important to continue to teach him good kitten manners by using vocalizations (ie high pitched "Ouch!") when he's doing things you don't want him to do, which is how other cats would teach him what's ok and what's too rough. He is playful, but not aggressive.

Rugrat has been transferred to League City Pets Alive so that he could go into their Cat Condos at the Pet Supplies Plus on League City Parkway: https://www.petsuppliesplus.com/store/tx/league-city/4149-league-city/4149

At last update, he was currently housed with his buddy, Poppy, and they would make a delightful duo of orange nonsense in any home.

You can inquire about adopting Rugrat through LCPA here: https://new.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/PALC-A-13888

If you'd like to support the work we do, we have donation links and wishlists available: https://tabbystinytabbies.org/donate-to-rescue
