Roosevelt's Story
Meet Roosevelt, a sweet, passive tuxedo guy with a brown fur glow and mile long whiskers and a hard luck story. We often at Second Chance receive cats who have been traumatized, are scared, shy, or may have a medical issue. We know some of our cats are harder to adopt than others but we know there is always an adopter for them. Sometimes we are the ones who have to be patient. And so it goes with Roosevelt.

Roosevelt came to us from a Humane Society on the east side of the state. He was trapped while trying to survive in a trailer park. He had a terrible upper respiratory infection but the plan was to neuter him and return him outside, respiratory infection untreated. This would have been a death sentence. A cat rescue here asked for Roosevelt to be transferred to their care and he made his way to Second Chance.

Roosevelt had an infected mouth and poor dental hygiene from not receiving adequate care and nutrition. In turn, he suffered from chronic sinus infections. He had all of his teeth removed which has helped immensely. However, his sinus issues while improved remain. Roosevelt will need someone who doesn't mind a little nose drainage and will keep his nose clean with a gentle wipe from a warm washcloth daily.

Roosevelt is very unassuming. He won't be the first to greet you or run around playfully. He has a favorite bed where he likes to lie. It's his safe place. He likes pets and has been known to lean in and give a little purr. It's the small things with Roosevelt that really matter. He has a good appetite and especially enjoys wet food. He is fine with the other cats in the room but doesn't seek them out. He was in foster care for a little while and during the night when he thought no one was looking he would explore his room. We believe over time and with love and encouragement, Roosevelt will continue to make strides. He is such a gentle boy, deserving of love and a home of his own.

Roosevelt would do best in a quieter, routine home likely with a single person or couple. We do not think younger children would be a good fit for Roosevelt. Roosevelt will need a small space to acclimate at first, and if his overall living space was smaller that would be ideal. He will need a patient adopter, one who will honor his schedule yet give him pets and praise and wet food daily. We know his adopter is out there. They just haven't found him yet.

Roosevelt has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Roosevelt has an approximate birthdate of 11/19/2020. His adoption fee is $95.

If you are interested in Roosevelt or any of the cats at Second Chance Cats of West Michigan, go to sccatswm.org/adopt to fill out an application, or stop in during open hours on Fridays from 11-2 or Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4.

Please note - we can only adopt to those who live within a one hour drive of Grand Rapids.

Thank you!
