Rocco's Story

Rocco is a sweet, gentle boy looking for his forever home. This handsome long hair guy is about 1 and sadly was left outside to fend for himself without regular feeding or care. Despite all this, Rocco has a kind heart. He loves belly rubs and head scratches. He purrs especially loudly when he gets a full body massage. He’s very affectionate and loves people.

Rocco has tested positive for FIV, also known at kitty Aids. Just like with people it is NOT contagious through casual contact. It's safe to share food, water, and litter box with a negative cat. FIV is only passed by mating or a deep bite wound, where saliva from the positive cat enters the blood stream of another kitty. This is very rare in socialized house cats.

FIV cats can have a shorter life span in part due to the fact that with a compromised immune system they are more prone to contracting infections. FIV positive cats must live strictly indoors to reduce the chances of contracting something dangerous.

It is NOT a death sentence! FIV positive cats can live well into their teens and have a very normal life.

If interested in adopting, start at CatsCT.org to submit an application.

This kitty is in a foster home but available to meet you at Bridgeport Petco by appointment.

All About the Cats, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
We verify an applicant's name and address online. We confirm if they are a homeowner. If not we ask for the landlord's full name and phone number to confirm cats are allowed, or will accept a lease copy showing their name and address and that a cat or cats are allowed. If applicant has had a pet in the last 5 years we call the vet for a history of care. If good care (and landlord says yes or they are a homeowner) they are approved. If not good care we try to educate on importance of regular care. About 1/2 of applicants in this category are approved. If no pets in last 5 years we ask for two personal references who are not related in any way.
