Reddy ended up living outside at an apartment complex after he and a puppy were abandoned by owners who moved. Another resident took the puppy and it was clear that he was not happy being alone outside. He is FIV+ but FIV is not the scary disease a lot of people think it is. Reddy is very healthy and can live a completely normal life! He needs yearly trips to vet for check up and vaccines just like any other cat. FIV+ cats can live with other cats that are FIV- as it is not transmitted though casual contact. They can snuggle, groom each other, eat from the same bowls, share a litter box.. FIV is a virus that is spread through a deep bite. I have several friends who have their FIV+ cats living in same areas as FIV- cats and have never had a neg cat turn + for FIV. And if someone already has an FIV+ cat then certainly there is no risk bringing in another FIV+. He's been neutered, dewormed, vaccinated and microchipped.
