Ray's Story

Hello, my name is Ray — and yes, I really am a little ray of sunshine!

In September of 2025, Pet Angel had just said goodbye to a beloved long-term special needs cat named Sunny. After returning from the vet and grieving the loss, the rescue director heard a knock on the front door. Standing there was an older couple holding a tiny kitten. “Our neighbor abandoned this baby in his trailer and never came back,” they explained. “Can you take him? Everyone else has turned us away.”

That tiny kitten was me.

Something about me reminded the rescue director of Sunny, and she says she felt like Sunny himself sent me there to bring a little light back into the rescue after such a difficult day. So she scooped me up, gave me a bath, and named me Ray — because I was a little Ray of Sunshine sent by Sunny himself.

I arrived at Pet Angel at only about a month old, tiny and alone. Since kittens that young shouldn’t grow up by themselves, Pet Angel quickly found another kitten my age named Shine so I’d have a friend. The two of us grew up side by side, learning how to be kittens together. As we got older, Shine ended up bonding very closely with another cat in the rescue named Sesame, but I remained the social butterfly of the room — happy to make friends with everybody!

I am now ready to find a forever family all my own.

I’m a big purr bucket with a loud, proud motor that starts the second you give me attention. I love cat hammocks, fluffy beds, climbing high, and running on the cat wheel in my free roam room — seriously, I am on that thing constantly. I also love chasing pom pom balls across the floor, stealing toys from my roommates, and making biscuits while purring my little heart out.

I’m the perfect mix of playful and affectionate. I enjoy being active and goofy, but I also truly love people and enjoy coming over for pets and attention. I’m a very social boy who enjoys being part of whatever is going on around me.

I get along wonderfully with other cats and currently live in a free roam room with several feline roommates, both older and younger than me. While I would likely enjoy another cat friend in my future home, I do not need to be adopted with another specific cat. I have never met a dog directly, but I would likely do well with a calm dog with a low prey drive and proper introductions. I would also do great in a home with respectful children.

I am fixed, microchipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and negative for FIV/FELV. I’m looking for a strictly indoor-only home within the state of Michigan where I can spend my days running, purring, playing, and bringing sunshine into someone’s life.

If you would like to meet me and see if we might be the purrfect match, please read about Pet Angel’s adoption process and submit an application online at https://petangeladoption.com/adopt-a-cat
