There are other people who yell at you, throw things at you, call you disgusting and a nuisance.<br/><br/>You don't understand what you did wrong.<br/><br/>You're just a kitten trying to survive.<br/><br/>There's nowhere to escape the rain. Nowhere to get away from the extreme heat. No soft bed. No warm blanket. No one to tell you that you're safe.<br/><br/>Then one day, the kind ladies put food inside a strange metal box.<br/><br/>You're scared, but you're hungry.<br/><br/>So you go inside.<br/><br/>SLAM.<br/><br/>The door closes behind you.<br/><br/>Your heart races. You panic. You try desperately to find a way out, but there isn't one. You can't find your littermates. You scream. Someone throws something over the box, and suddenly everything is dark.<br/><br/>Then you feel yourself moving.<br/><br/>When the light comes back, you're somewhere completely different. It's loud. It smells like other animals. There are humans standing over you, looking at you.<br/><br/>You press yourself as far into the back of the box as you can.<br/><br/>Then they reach in and pick you up.<br/><br/>You're terrified.<br/><br/>But these humans speak softly. They don't yell. They don't throw anything. They gently look you over and hold you carefully.<br/><br/>And eventually... you stop fighting.<br/><br/>They place you into a bigger enclosure--with your littermates.<br/><br/>There are soft beds.<br/><br/>Warm blankets.<br/><br/>A litter box.<br/><br/>And the biggest bowl of food you've ever seen.<br/><br/>And for the first time, you don't have to fight anyone for it.<br/><br/>Days pass.<br/><br/>You discover this place is warm.<br/><br/>It's safe.<br/><br/>There is always food.<br/><br/>No one is hurting you.<br/><br/>You are still afraid of the humans, but they don't force you to be touched. They simply keep showing up. They feed you. They care for you. They let you watch from a safe distance.<br/><br/>And slowly, you begin to realize...<br/><br/>Maybe humans aren't all bad.<br/><br/>Then you get sick.<br/><br/>You don't want to eat. You don't want to play. Your stomach hurts. You just want to sleep.<br/><br/>Your siblings aren't feeling well either.<br/><br/>And now those humans are giving you awful-tasting medicine twice a day.<br/><br/>You become afraid of them again.<br/><br/>But they keep showing up.<br/><br/>They keep caring for you.<br/><br/>They don't give up.<br/><br/>Fast forward 100 days.<br/><br/>You're still here.<br/><br/>Still warm.<br/><br/>Still safe.<br/><br/>Still surrounded by food.<br/><br/>Still sleeping beside your littermates every night.<br/><br/>But you're still scared.<br/><br/>Two of your litter mates where a bit more bold, and found a family willing to give them a home, but the 3 remaining litter mates are so unsure of the world. <br/><br/>You're not sure about people. Loud noises make you nervous. Fast movements make you nervous. Little humans are especially overwhelming.<br/><br/>You want to trust.<br/><br/>You just need someone willing to give you the time to learn how.<br/><br/>This is the story of Salem, Maple, and Raven. 🖤🤎🖤<br/><br/>Three siblings who never asked for the life they were given.<br/><br/>They were trapped by one of the local TNR groups we work with and brought to us because they were too young for surgery. The area they came from was known to be dangerous for community cats, with people intentionally leaving out harmful things in an attempt to hurt them.<br/><br/>These three babies deserved a chance.<br/><br/>So we gave them one.<br/><br/>And now they've been waiting 100 DAYS for someone else to give them their next chance.<br/><br/>Salem, Maple, and Raven are not the kittens who will run to the front of their kennel and immediately climb into your lap.<br/><br/>They're the kittens who need you to sit quietly.<br/><br/>To be patient.<br/><br/>To let them watch you.<br/><br/>To let them decide when they're ready.<br/><br/>The 3-3-3 rule may take longer with these three. Their timeline may look more like weeks or months instead of days.<br/><br/>But we believe that underneath the fear are three amazing cats who are just waiting for someone to give them the opportunity to show who they really are.<br/><br/>🐾 They do not all have to go together.<br/><br/>However, we strongly believe Salem and Raven should go home with a littermate, as they rely heavily on the companionship and security they find in one another.<br/><br/>Maple is the most willing of the three to come around, but she is still very wary of being touched.<br/><br/>We are looking for homes that are:<br/><br/>🏡 Child-free<br/>🐶 Dog-free<br/>🐱 Willing to consider other cat-friendly cats<br/>❤️ Patient and understanding<br/>⏳ Willing to give them as much time as they need<br/><br/>These three don't need someone to "fix" them.<br/><br/>They need someone to believe in them.<br/><br/>Someone who understands that hiding isn't failure.<br/><br/>That walking away isn't rejection.<br/><br/>That trust cannot be rushed.<br/><br/>They need someone who will celebrate the first time they stay in the room instead of running.<br/><br/>The first time they play while you're watching.<br/><br/>The first time they accept a treat from your hand.<br/><br/>The first time they choose to come a little closer.<br/><br/>And maybe, someday, the first time they curl up beside you.<br/><br/>They didn't ask for this life.<br/><br/>But from this point forward, we want to help give them the life they always deserved.<br/><br/>A life where they're safe.<br/><br/>A life where they're loved.<br/><br/>A life where they never have to wonder where their next meal is coming from.<br/><br/>A life where they finally learn that there are still kind humans in this world. ❤️<br/><br/>100 days is long enough.<br/><br/>Salem.
