Prospero's Story
“Prospero is one of the most forgiving cats I've ever met. When he first came in, he was sooooo head shy, as his mangled ears were hurting and healing (even with a dynamic pain control program on board), and he just looked sad and defeated. It took a few weeks before he started getting comfortable with his new surroundings. Once he started trusting us, he quickly figured out that the hands that were reaching in his catio were leaving him bowls of yummy food! And this guy LOVES HIS FOOD!! He's become such a good boy for all his meds, his weigh ins, and being handled. He's a very special guy and will require a quiet home where he can continue to trust people and thrive, perhaps someone who is home often will come along, who is looking for a buddy who wants nothing more than to be the center of their world. This boy deserves nothing but the best!
Prospero took his time settling in and is still a work in progress. He'll need further time to adjust to us humans as he can be reactionary at times. (Most often if another cat walks towards his area, maybe was a participant a few fight clubs back in the day?)

He's so friendly now that I don't even need to bring treats over to entice him out of his cubby, he comes right up and flops down for some head rubs. There might be a voice in there just waiting to come out, but all he has presented me with is silent meows at this point. Oh, and he'll also come up to the front of the catio and be face to face with less hesitancy as well: I gave him a forehead kiss with no issue the other day! Prospero would blossom further in a quiet home with no other feline roommates, so he has a chance to relax fully and enjoy life.”

I couldn’t agree more with these two spot-on assessments, and I know personally know Prospero intimately, as he and I spent a great feal of time together at Feline Wellness Center while I was treating him for his massive ear wounds and infection, bite wounds, a nail bed infection due, fleas, a profound infectious anemia (damn Mycoplasma), malnutrition and a few other odds and ends that were bringing this fine fella (born in the summer of 2020. And wouldn’t ya know it, once I got him over these hurdles, another one presented itself in the way of HCM, or hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, complete with pulmonary edema and the need for twice daily diuretics to prevent him from developing congestive heart failure. I mean, how much is one little dude expected to handle, and with such stride to boot!

I consider my beloved Prospero adoptable, and heart disease in the feline population is quite common, and since it was diagnosed early on, proper treatment has been undertaken to ensure that he lives the safest, healthiest life possible. We know that he may be a bit mor challenging to place into his ideal home, so we are going to cat-egorize him as one of our special adoptions, one with a chronic illness whose medical costs will be covered for the first two years post-adoption by Crash’s through FWC.
If you are interested in learning more about this special program – and our most special fella – please let us know!

Special thanks to Carter, an amazing boy who alerted his mom Nicole to Prospero's plight and got the ball rolling quickly to get him the care he needed for far too long!
