He’s also playful and energetic—flirt poles are his absolute favorite! When his social and play needs are met, he’s a relaxed guy who enjoys long naps. What Makes Him Unique: Possum thrives with a cat-savvy adopter who respects his boundaries. He prefers to initiate physical contact on his own terms and doesn’t respond well to being forced into anything (like nail trims, which may need to be done gradually). When under stimulated, he can get into nighttime mischief—knocking items off surfaces—so enrichment and playtime are key. Medical Needs:<br/>Possum has severe, recurrent dental disease (gingivitis and resorptive lesions) and will require ongoing dental care, likely annually. Potential adopters should be prepared for the cost and commitment of managing his oral health.<br/>Possum needs someone who: Can provide regular dental care and budget for future procedures. Understands and respects feline boundaries. Will give him plenty of play and enrichment to keep him happy. Despite his challenges, Possum’s previous owner describes him as "a funny and wonderful little guy" and hopes he finds someone who will love him as much as she has. Adoption Requirements: No children under 12, Only pet in the home. Quiet home where he can feel safe and secure. He can become overstimulated, so respect his boundaries. What is an Adoption Audition? It’s a 2 week, no-strings-attached, trial adoption period. You can take this pet home to try it out! Interested? Come to the shelter any time during open hours and talk to one of our Customer Care staff. <br/><br/>Be sure to check the "shelter information" box on the listing to see if the pet is located at our Fairfax Campus (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) or our Lorton Campus (8875 Lorton Road, Lorton). Then, come in during our open hours!
