Pina's Story

Pina is #ADOPTABLE from foster. Email adoptions@catnapsociety.com to apply for and meet Pina.

Female, domestic short hair, brown tabby w/white

A long time ago, we read a review of the song “B*&ch” by Meredith Brooks. “An unapologetic anthem of complex femininity that you feel deep in your soul”. Now let’s talk about Pina. In certain circles she may be considered a bit legendary, but that was then....

Pina came into care as a skinny single mom, with some scars and attitude to show from her time “out there.” She was pretty determined that she didn’t need nothing from nobody, and then she went into foster care and never looked back. All she seemed to need to blossom was a quiet home, a couple of people, and some encouragement and play. This little fluffy donut of a cat is racking up the NEW ACHIEVEMENTS almost daily, with no sign of stopping, and it’s time for her to start looking for a forever family of her very own.

Pina has seemingly adopted the motto of “never say never”. Purrs, and pets, and biscuit making, and chasing toys all over the place, and the head boops seemed impossible at one point, but happen every single day now. Nail trims! Picking her up! She joins her foster mom for lap cuddles and reading time every night, without any coercion or bribes (obviously there were bribes and coercion in the beginning). This diva can be a little cautious. If you’re willing to try, try again, if at first you don’t succeed, it’s just a gorgeous upward curve of accomplishments and the right home will bring out her very best.

Pina is, and this might sound strange, an excellent communicator. Her huge eyes, and her markings, and ears and whiskers and tail , her chirps and meows and trills, and body language in general, speaks, and if you’re interested in learning you just have to pay attention. She’s talking to you all the time. Her tail rarely stops moving, and it’s talking to you too (and if she ever gets surprised and “puffs up” she is so perfect and puffy). She’s not spicy, but there’s a sprinkle of sass about her. She’s got an adorable little strut, and a little bouncy prance when it’s treat time.

She broadcasts her intentions. You can tell if she wants to play, or maybe wants a little break. You can tell if you’re starting to bump up against a boundary, or if she’s happily ready to break down that wall. All you have to do is pay attention and learn, and she will learn from you too!! She knows “the tone” when you say her name a certain way because she’s gearing up to do something cheeky. She will expect the same from you if she feels she needs to pull out “the tone” and you’ll know when you encounter it. She loves following you around and enticing you to play, or pet, but she also truly enjoys her down time and will find herself a couple of favourite spots to nap.

Interactive play is so important for Pina, and not just because she has a killer bum wiggle (but she does and what a waste to not encourage it!!). Wand toys, and little balls, laser pointers... things and movements that remind her that she’s a mighty hunter. She will stalk and pounce... bum wiggle each time her target moves to a new location. She will be coming with her favourite scratch post because we don’t have it in our hearts to separate them. Throwing her body around that thing is one of her favourite things in the world. (We have no proof she wasn’t a pole dancer in the past....)

Pina should be set up in her own room at first. This will let her adjust to the sounds and rhythm of your home, and will let you easily get close to her as she realizes she has a new home. A good window, a cat tree, some toys and she will settle in. A nice comfortable chair for you, that she can start to join you on, would be amazing. While she has gotten more comfortable in her foster home, it is still in “her” original room that she is MOST comfortable and affectionate. She has good litter habits, she cleans her dish at mealtimes, and a Churu treat lasts all day (just little bits every visit keeps her interested and focussed). At this point, Pina has indicated that she would not be open to living with a dog AT ALL. While she has shown interest in the older resident cats, she gets a bit hissy and smacky, but lets face it, the residents haven’t given her much to work with. They seem to coexist but she’s a little bit territorial... of THEIR house! But kittens? Oh boy. She has spent the last 2 months with 3 little boy kittens as her roommate and she now identifies as a kitten. It wasn’t mothering so much as it was just FUN. Chasing through tunnels and wrestling and just being adorable.
She’s hoping for a quiet, cat savvy home with a fully grown human or two. Human children, and their enthusiastic energy and movement would be way too much for Pina at this point. She genuinely likes being where the people are and chooses to be around (if you’re over there at your desk, chances are she will be playing just behind your chair, or even on the chair behind you. If you’re on the couch, she’ll be around the couch too. She is an excellent companion cat).

Pina has become the one that will be hard to beat for her experienced foster mom (hence this novel of a writeup) but the conclusion has been reached that Pina would flourish with a bit more one on one time with her people, and fewer animals to navigate in the home. She will just continue to grow and glow in the right home.

Thanks for reading. She’s worth it.

To help Pina settle into her new space, we recommend starting her off in a smaller safe room so she can adjust gradually and feel safe. Reading the “Rule of Three” document included with the adoption resources will help you help Pina settle in.

Compatibility
Cats: Likely no, she isn’t always the nicest to them as it means sharing her person, space and toys
Dogs: No, no exceptions
Kids: No

Age
Estimated age: 3 12 years old

Veterinary Information
• Pina has been spayed
• Pina has evidence of mild inflammation in her lower airways and medications and intermittent xray repeats while in care, have shown no changes. The suspected diagnosis is feline asthma however she has had no signs or symptoms of that during her 10 months in care, and her condition remains stable. Wheezing/coughing noted in future may require a veterinary visit and follow up for treatment, but no treatment is necessary at this time, and she has been cleared for adoption by her vet provider. It is recommended to use no-low scent products and dust-free litter to assist in keeping her environment free of any potential asthmatic triggers.
• Pina experienced chin acne while in care but it cleared up nicely with treatment. Chin acne can be caused using plastic food and water bowls, to which some cats can be sensitive. It is recommended to use glass, ceramic or stainless-steel food and water bowls for Pina, to prevent recurrence of the chin acne. Also, keeping current on flea medication may be helpful.
• Vaccinated for FVRCP and Feline Leukemia
• Microchipped
• Deflead and dewormed
• Six weeks of pet insurance
• Health record card
• Specific diagnostic testing may also have been done as each cat's health may warrant while in CatNap's care. Should you wish to have more detailed information before submitting an application, please contact adoptions@catnapsociety.com

CatNap's Adoption Fee for Pina is $375

Please note: Only in person applications are accepted at the adoption centre after meeting Pina.

ONLY APPROVED APPLICANTS WILL BE CONTACTED
