Pig Pen's Story
Meet Pig Pen!
Some of you have already been following the journey of Pig Pen and will be delighted to know that after a couple months of rest and a lot of TLC, HE IS READY FOR ADOPTION!
Pig Pen was found dragging himself along the side of a dirt road. One of our lovely clients at the RPAW Animal Wellness Center saw him and stopped immediately. At first we were not sure what exactly was wrong. We quickly determined a couple things, his back legs were wonky and he had A LOT of poop! ?
In the beginning weeks we battle some of the worst diarrhea we have seen and we were worried that his gut issues would be life long. Thankfully after treating the parasites and also promoting gut heal with special food and pro/prebiotics, we started to see progress.
We also saw progress with the function of his back end. Xrays showed a badly broken but healed leg which he was using fine, and a fairly normal leg that he wasn't using. After speaking with the orthopedic specialist it was determined he likely had a nerve injury and only time would tell if he would regain function and/or need surgery on either side.
All of us are delighted to say that he is now healed and he didn't need surgery!
This little man who is now 5-6 months old, is a rough and tumble kind of teenager ? He likes to play with the other kittens at the wellness center but does best with someone that can match his energy.
Pig Pen loves people, almost as much as snacks! He is a huge cuddler and loves to rub your face between his paws and nose boop you.
One thing that has remain somewhat the same is that we named him Pig Pen for his unkempt appearance and he does continue to be an over producer of ear wax! We do routinely clean them but after numerous cytology (putting a sample of debris on a slide and looking under the microscope for infection) they always come back as just wax. He may grow out of this or he may need ear cleanings throughout the year. He is use to them ?
If you think you need a little Parton the Peanuts gang in your home, look no further!
Adoption fee is $300
Adoption applications available at rpaw.org
