Peter's Story

Meet Peter - the little survivor ready to fall into his forever home! This two-year old boy is EXTREMELY affectionate, playful, and just an all-around amazing cat. He loves attention, gets along great with other cats (Peter's half-sibling Finley is also available for adoption), and is always happy to enjoy some Temptations or a good catnip toy. He would do great with respectful kids over 8, but would prefer a home without dogs.

Peter came to us from an extreme hoarding situation. Shortly after his neuter surgery, Peter suddenly began bleeding profusely and had to be rushed to the emergency vet. What followed was a terrifying night that included multiple lifesaving blood transfusions. It was then discovered that Peter wasn’t able to clot properly.

Because of the extremely limited blood flow during that episode, his tail went limp. Unfortunately it could not be saved and eventually had to be amputated. Then, after a months-long journey of bloodwork, testing, specialist consultations, and even guidance from the veterinary team at Cornell University, we finally had an answer: Peter has metabolic coagulopathy. The best part: Peter’s future is bright!

Do you take vitamins? So does Peter! He simply takes a small, inexpensive Vitamin K pill every other day, and he takes it very easily. His medication is very manageable, and if an occasional dose is missed by a day or two, it is not considered an emergency -- just resume his normal schedule as directed by his vet. If Peter ever needs surgery in the future, such as a dental or treatment for an injury, he would likely need an increased dose of Vitamin K leading up to the procedure (or an injection in an emergency situation).

Peter also has one very important house rule: he LOVES a clean litter box with clumping litter! He is a very clean boy and definitely appreciates having his bathroom kept nice and tidy.

After everything Peter has been through, he is more than ready to trade hospital visits and medical mysteries for cozy blankets, sunny windows, crunchy leaves outside, and a family of his own. He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, flea-treated, tested negative for FIV/FeLV, up-to-date on all of his vaccinations, and hoping to find the one thing he’s been waiting for most: his forever home.

Could Peter be the perfect addition to your family? If you want a BFF who is funny and affectionate, and will let you know that you are VERY LOVED - Peter could be your guy!

Note: All of our cats are in foster homes in the Pittsburgh area, so the first step in adopting from us is to fill out an application here:
http://bit.ly/3VDJfhm
