Pepper's Story
Pepper was named because upon her arrival at her foster mom’s home, she was a very spicy girl! Her foster mom wasn’t entirely sure that she would ever be able to get her to come around, but over time Pepper was able to learn to trust and cautiously welcome petting and human interaction. Pepper is a curious, playful girl who loves a good head or butt scratch! She enjoys playing with her best friend, Annie, and her foster siblings all day long, running about the house and batting around toys, and of course cuddling with her pals. She adores her foster siblings and often follows her foster brother, Henry, around like his shadow. She’s still a bit skittish with noises and sudden movements of both her feline peers and her foster mom, but once she realizes there’s no harm, she relaxes and carries on. She enjoys a long nap in her favorite cat bed or a sunny window. She is not much of a picky eater, but treats are really what get her to be vocal – she will chat up a storm once she sees a Churu be pulled out of the treat cabinet! She is semi-food motivated, but it depends on the mood she is in. She knows her name and will often come when called for – “Pepper Girl”, “Pep”, “Peppy”, and “Pepperoo” are all variations her foster mom uses. She is still wary of a hairbrush, but, when necessary, she does let her foster mom cut mats out of her fur. She enjoys being pet and will come sit next to you on the couch for some attention. She will not allow her foster mom to pick her up, as she is definitely an “I’ll come to you” type of gal. Pepper has green eyes and a fluffy tail.

Pepper loves “Cat TV” and to play with mice toys and balls she can pick up in her teeth or bat around but are most fond of ribbon/wand toys. She will play tug of war with you and once you’ve let them “win”, Pepper will carry her prize all throughout the house, keeping it away from the other cats or her foster mom!

Pepper and Annie are a bonded pair and must be adopted together. They will take time, patience, and grace as they adapt to a new home. These are not cats who will immediately settle in and allow you to pick them up, etc. But they are absolutely worth every shred of energy you put into them! An ideal adopter would be understanding of this and give them the space they need to adapt, but also be home often enough to give them plenty of attention and stability. Their foster mom works from home, so they are used to a lot of human interaction/presence. With proper introduction, they would likely do well with other friendly cats but have never been around dogs of young children. They can sometimes get overstimulated from petting and can gently nip, so it is advised that they are not adopted into a home with children under 13, or in a home where an animal’s behavioral cues would not be understood/recognized. Overall, they are quiet, gentle cats.
