Penny's Story

Penny is #ADOPTABLE from her foster home in Nanaimo.

Female, domestic short hair, brown tabby

Penny should have been named Cleopatra or Marie Antoinette, she is royalty through and through. She came from the streets, but knew deep in her heart she was made for more. She has an aire about her. Elegant, refined, slightly arrogant. She is self conscious about her humble beginnings and unabashedly tells everyone that she comes from old money.…and I am inclined to believe her.

Penny has been sharing her foster space with 3 male and 3 female cats (much to her chagrin). Penny is cultured and civilized and would never cause drama, but she definitely looks down her nose at most cats (and some people). You can almost see her snort in disgust and shake her head. She is tolerant and patient and will extract herself from the situation if the other cats are too boisterous.

Penny has perfected the “RBF” (resting B face), wherein she looks at you as if she’s weary from enduring the mere presence of her classless roommates. When you enter the room she will stand up and flick her tail as if to say, “where have you been human servant! My dish is empty and I require a back massage!”

Penny loves a good firm head, neck and back scratch. She will close her eyes in a moment of bliss and lean in to you wanting more. But then she’ll stop, look at you in embarrassment and walk away as if nothing happened. She has been learning that it’s ok to not always be the image of perfection and as the days go by she is craving more and more attention. Penny has a cool controlled regal exterior and a soft sweetheart that she is just starting to discover.

Penny likes to pretend that the treats you offer are subpar. She will look at the treat, look at you, and if she could she would give you a “seriously” eyebrow raise. Then she’ll sigh and gingerly take the treat as if she’s the one doing you a favour. She doesn’t care much for toys, she likes to keep up her image of poise and sophistication. That being said I think she secretly wants to indulge her kitten within, for when she thinks no one is looking she will softly reach her paw out to tap tap at a ball or mouse.

Penny is not shy, she will waltz between and around your ankles as you go to fill her dish. If you happen to not be paying enough attention to her, she will reach out and tap you on the arm or leg, reminding you she’s the most important “person” in the room.

Penny has formed an unlikely friendship with Sue, the “black-sheep”, in the foster home. Sue’s inability to “read the room” and follow social cues often gets her into trouble with other cats, but not Penny. Penny accepts her for who she is and they’ve formed a really adorable pair. They are not a bonded pair but get along well with one another.

Penny would be fine with other cats and/or older cat-savvy dogs, but she is not interested in tolerating young children. Adults only or older teens please!

To help Penny settle into a new space, we recommend starting her off in a smaller, safe space to build trust and confidence in her new environment. Reading the “Rule of Three” document included with the adoption resources will help you help Penny settle in.

Compatibility
Cats: Yes, Penny should be fine with other cats with proper introductions but would also be ok on her own
Dogs: A calm, older cat savvy dog can be considered for Penny
Kids: No, Penny needs an adult only home, older cat savvy teens can be considered

Age
Estimated age: 1 yr 6 months

Veterinary Information
• Penny has been spayed.
• Vaccinated for FVRCP and Feline Leukemia
• Microchipped
• Deflead and dewormed
• Six weeks of pet insurance
• Health record card
• Specific diagnostic testing may also have been done as each cat's health may warrant while in CatNap's care. Should you wish to have more detailed information before submitting an application, please contact adoptions@catnapsociety.com

CatNap's Adoption Fee for Peny is $400
