Panther's Story

To adopt this cat from Black Cat Rescue, please fill out a profile

https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston

Panther is a two year old male cat, neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He came to us from a house with lots of cats, but is flourishing in a foster home as the only cat, lapping up the love and attention! Here’s what his foster volunteers say about him:

How would you describe the cats general personality? Panther is playful, quirky, friendly, cuddly & cute as a button!

Does the cat enjoy being pet? YES!

If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Everywhere he tolerates stomach pets but that quickly turns into him thinking it’s play time. He loves being pet on top of the head and under the chin & all down the back and tail

Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? Not really

Does the cat come on your lap? Yes

Does the cat like to be held? He tolerates it but doesn’t love it he will squirm after a few seconds.

Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes for a few hours and then leaves to go find his spot on the couch

Does the cat seek your attention? At all hours of the day and night yes!

Does the cat like to play? When he’s in the mood yes

What are the cat's favorite games and toys? He likes the independent play toys where he can go and touch a toy to turn on when he wants to play he also loves playing with the feather on a stick toy

How vocal is the cat? Extremely chatty. I’ve actually never heard a cat meow as often and loud as he does, but you can’t hear him outside of the apartment. He makes it known when he needs something whether it’s attention, food, pets, play time etc.

What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Panther Meows but he has all different kinds of meows he makes, some are elongated some are quiet and some are very loud and consistent. He does not purr

Does the cat scratch a scratcher? He does. He has one that’s on the floor like a bed and a standing tall tree he uses both of them frequently.

Does the cat always use the litter box? He does! At first it was a big issue getting him to pee in the litter box but since his surgery he’s been using it more regularly with only a few accidents here and there.

What food and frequency is the cat currently eating? Panther has to be on a specific urinary food for the rest of his life. It is called (hills prescription urinary care wet food) this food can be ordered on chewy.

Is the cat picky about food? Not really but he prefers the wet food over dry food. He really enjoys his prescription food which is a wet food.

What is the cat's favorite treat? Churu & dry temptation treats

Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? If so, under what circumstances? No

Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No

Does the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? Yes but it’s very light and it’s more of a “I love you” nibble while you’re in the middle of petting. Or if he wants you to pet him he will “bite” (so softly) and bring your hand to where he wants to be pet.

Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No

To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? He LOVES new people we’ve had multiple people in our apartment with him at different times and he did so well and usually will end up cuddled in their lap by the end of the visits!

If you have observed the cat with other animals, please describe how they get on? For a moment in time we had Panther’s brother with us but they were not doing well together, fighting a lot, hissing, biting each-other it was not a great situation for them. There were also a lot of other factors going on since Panther was sick at this time so I am not sure about how he would do with another cat or animal at this time.

Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Panther is addicted to being pet he will sit on your lap for hours on end if you keep petting him. He also drools and does a somersault when you pet him just right! If he wants some attention he will come up to you and head-butt your hands to let you know it’s time to drop when you’re doing and focus on him!

In your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Panther’s oozing with love and companionship. It is clear he was not receiving the kind of love and attention he so desperately craved when he arrived at our home. He is the true definition of give love, get love. Everyday we have him is the best day ever and I just know where ever he does go he will change that persons life for the better, as he’s done for us.

What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? When we received Panther he was diagnosed with a condition called FLUTD which is a Urinary disease that affects the urinary tract & bladder causing blood in his urine & a lot of pain. Because of that diagnosis Panther had to have a permanent surgery to help save his life or else he would have lived a life of hospital visits, misery and a whole lot of pain! Because of that situation our only challenges were getting him to pee in the litter box & figuring out what was going on with him. Now he’s had his surgery and recovered well, we’ve had no challenges at all.

To learn more about adopting this cat in Massachusetts, please visit www.blackcatrescue.com or fill out an Adoption Profile at https://blackcatrescue.com/adopt-cat-boston.
