Oscar's Story

FOSTER TO ADOPT NEEDED

Over the weekend, we were notified by a feral colony caregiver that a gorgeous (neutered) purebred (-VERIFIED-) snow lynx Bengal had suddenly joined the group. Oscar, a 7-year-old cat who had escaped his family home.

Through a series of miracles, we were able to locate the original owner who was able to tell us more about Oscar.

The original owner was HORRIFIED to learn of Oscar’s plight. She had re-homed him years ago, due to the fact that when she added two homeless kittens to the household, Oscar began to suffer from inappropriate urination. At the time her Veterinarian didn’t offer any potential treatments to correct the issue.

When she learned of Oscar’s plight, she made contact with the Colony manager and physically went to ensure his safe departure from the streets. He wouldn’t come to anyone - but when she arrived and called his name - he came right to her like he’d left her side only a few days ago. She still has the two kittens (older now) and knew that he wouldn’t thrive if he returned to her.

Oscar’s original owner told us that sadly, this happened again at his next home. That owner also re-homed him and he was then placed as the only cat in a home. Unfortunately the new owner left a window open and that’s how he ended up at the colony.

But there’s more! We reached out to Oscar’s breeder who is known to our rescue and she has offered her support to place him in a home where he won’t have to compete for resources. Together we’re working to find the very best forever home, for Oscar.

His foster says he is absolutely the very best house guest. She has two other Bengals and simply leaned in to help when there was no one else to do so. She said he is incredibly sweet, and despite knowing that there are two other cats in the home, he has been completely un-reactive (he has his own room).

Yesterday we got him to a Veterinarian. $761.69 later, we confirmed that he is HEALTHY and just needed a little bit of TLC to get back on his feet. We have no idea how long he was on the streets fighting to survive. He was 13 lbs. when he left his original owner’s home, and now he’s just 10 lbs. His FELV / FIV test is negative. A fecal test was performed and he is 100% healthy in that department as well. He did suffer from a corneal scratch but it is minor; he was treated with ocular antibiotics (looking at him you wouldn’t see anything). Oscar is neutered and microchipped.

Oscar is NOT a feral cat. He’s a sweetheart!! He simply needs a home where he’ll be given the chance to settle in and never given up on again.

Let’s turn Oscar’s bad luck into a sweet success story!

If you can help Oscar please apply:

-Foster Application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/BRUT/Cat
-Adoption Application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRUT/Cat

If they are a viable candidate, we next schedule a Video Conference to meet them and their other pets and family members. We consult with them on that call about litter box placement, location for cat towers and feeding. If everything looks good and we wish to proceed with the adoption, they fill out an Adoption agreement where they agree that the cat will be properly cared for, indoor only, and will never be sold or given away to another party or rescue. They agree that if things don't work out, they will return the cat to our Rescue.
