When you’re found as a stray, you’re probably a long way from a palace, right? But when I got to the shelter, I was named Orla, which means “golden princess.” It’s taken me a while to live up to my name. I came from somewhere in SE Rochester back in August 2025. I was in a couple of foster homes and then came to the shelter. Now, I’m more than 2 years old, and I’m still here! It has taken me a while to learn to trust and feel comfortable, which might be why I didn’t make a good impression on people. I used to swat. I don’t do that anymore! In fact, I enjoy being petted now. I’m learning to have fun! I’ve started to play with wand toys! There’s a very nice volunteer who spends a lot of time with me. She’s helped me learn to be gentle. She can walk right up to me, and I am very calm when she approaches me. I’m learning my princess manners. Still, I might do best in a home with adults or older children only, and because I will be meeting someone new and adjusting to a new living situation, please expect that it will take some time for me to adapt. Have a quiet setting and establish a routine. Sit quietly with me; read my signals and give me space.
