Ophelia - IN 's Story

Ft Wayne, IN

Meet Ophelia – A Regal Queen Looking for Her Home (Throne)

Ophelia is a gorgeous and extremely loving 3 to 5-year-old female (spayed) ‘sheet marble’ charcoal Bengal, and she’s ready to rule her forever home with affection and charm. This sweet girl is a purr machine who thrives on human interaction, including being petted and gentle belly strokes while she wriggles around on her back or side to soak up all the attention you can give her. When she’s in the mood, she’ll curl up on your lap or even snuggle under a supersoft blanket (usually after extensive pets and/or plays), but always on her own terms. She has very happily taken naps with my husband as well as slept with me in our guest room overnight (she was the happiest I had ever seen her during that time). Ophelia does not like being picked up but will generally tolerate being picked up and carried short distances.

Ophelia (or “Ophe” for short) needs someone who is home most of the day and can afford to give her all the attention she craves and deserves. She is a lover who wants companionship and will get stressed if left alone without human interaction for long periods of time, which has led to some occasional over-grooming when she feels lonely and misses us. If you work from home or love being a homebody, she’ll be your perfect match and be by your side (or on your lap) constantly.

Playtime is a must for this energetic girl! She loves interactive toys like feather wands, fishing pole toys, and anything that lets her show off her playful side. When she’s not playing, she enjoys exploring, climbing to high spots, and relaxing in cozy spaces like a cuddler bed under the edge of your bed or a window perch with soft blankets. She has access to both sisal and cardboard cat scratchers as she does have all of her claws, and very much prefers her sisal scratcher to cardboard. If you provide her with a tall cat tower/tree, she will climb the sisal towers to the top where she loves to perch and look out over her surroundings (and loyal followers).

Her litter box habits are excellent, and she prefers having two boxes to do her business in, respectively. She’s currently eating store bought dry food (Fancy Feast –she loves it) and drinks a ton of water from a fountain –a fountain with decent water capacity will be a necessity for her royal hydration needs between purr and play sessions.

It’s unclear whether Ophelia could eventually coexist in a moderate to large home with one or two other cats, or if she truly needs (or wants) to be an only cat. In her current foster environment, she has been passively exposed to 7 other cats (throughout 2800 sq ft) during her supervised social excursions outside of her quarters, including 4 other female Bengals and 2 male cats. During supervised ~1 hour trips where she loves to explore around the house, she generally keeps to herself at least initially and if not otherwise stimulated by a cat and will occasionally engage in a quick tail sniff or (rare) nose-to-nose interaction. However, there have been instances of stalking the other cats, which is unfortunate because she is amazing and we (as her fosters) love her beyond measure. The stalking has happened with both male and female cats, and on several occasions, this has escalated into physical fighting involving clawing, biting, and fur flying requiring us to physically intervene.

Ophelia may be okay with another confident cat who can stand their ground (and not flee –this generally has led her to give chase) but is not overly aggressive and capable of respecting boundaries/personal space of other cats. She has shown aggression toward our 16-year-old female Snow Bengal, launching herself at her without warning on multiple occasions. If you’re considering adopting Ophelia, we would strongly recommend a home without elderly or vulnerable cats for this reason.

Ophelia has not been around dogs or children of any age, so we cannot confirm how she would react in those situations.

If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and devoted feline who will shower you with purrs and affection, Ophelia may be the lady for you. She’s ready to be your best friend, partner in naps, and your dark (but beautiful) little shadow –are you ready to give her the throne she deserves?

If interested, fill out an application at greatlakesbengalrescue.co
