Oliver's Story

Why settle for a boy when this mature, handsome, distinguished man waiting for you to fall in love with him! Meet Oliver, a sweet elder statesman who is looking to spend his golden years in a warm, loving, forever home. Oliver is 9 years old, but please don’t think that means he is just a short-term commitment not worth your time or heartache. He has a lot of love left to give, and is just searching for the right, deserving person to share it with.
A lot of times when you hear about an older cat up for adoption, you hear that he was mistreated, or neglected, or abused. None of those things are true about Oliver. He spent his whole life in a loving home, but needs to be re-homed because he had a new human sister who was severely allergic to him! His owners came to us with tears in their eyes and begged us to make sure their little man was placed in the perfect home, and we promised to do just that.
A little background information, Oliver is a DSH/Abyssinian mix breed, with a soft ginger and white coat and a dark colored, perfectly “boopable” nose. He is a bit of a finicky eater, and we found it best to feed him in smaller increments to prevent him from overeating and vomiting. When we first met him, he was dealing with some anxiety, which was expected, but he warmed up to us in no time. He has met our resident cats, and while he is more than willing to play with the kittens, he really would prefer to be a lazy lap cat. He isn’t shy letting you know when he wants to cuddle, and is always happy to see us, greeting us with little chirps when we walk into the room.
Oliver was declawed at a very young age (his owners were not aware of the risks and problems it causes), but he has learned to live with it. Not having claws doesn’t stop him from “clawing” or playing with scratching boards and posts. That is actually adorable, because he goes through all the cat-like motions instinctively, but there is no shredded cardboard to clean up when he is done. Even though he doesn’t seem to notice that his claws are gone, the fact that he doesn’t have them means he would not do well in a home with aggressive dogs or “alpha” cats.
Despite being up there in age and declawed, this mature gentleman doesn’t show any signs of slowing down or giving up. He just passed his health exam with flying colors, and is looking to start his next chapter in life. Oliver is a big, 13 pound love loaf, and he is going to make whoever adopts him very happy. Our own experience with mature and senior cats has taught us that the older ones appreciate being adopted so much more, and they love so much harder than the little kittens do.
So please apply today to make Oliver the newest addition to your family. You won’t regret it! Oh, and did we mention how sweet and handsome he is? If cats had proms, this guy would be the Prom King!
