Noel's Story

Noel is a miracle kitty. She is considered special needs but considering her start in life she is just special. Noel was found by the road 3days before Christmas 2023 as a young kitten in severe pain with serious constipation. After clearing she was released but was back within a week with constipation again. After clearing it was discovered that she was born with two congenital defects; Rectovaginal Fistula and Atresia Ani. In short, her anal and vaginal plumbing was connected and the anal canal after her hip bones was narrowed significantly meaning she couldn't pass poop normally. At her young age her only options were euthanasia or major reconstructive surgery. Surgery was chosen and after an expensive surgery at University of Georgia Animal Hospital Noel started her long road to recovery.

We are happy to say that Noel has recovered amazingly well. Even her shaved rear end has come back fully. Due to the extent of her constipation at an early age she is prone to mega-colon. This is a condition where stool can build up and lead to constipation. To resolve this issue Noel is on a high fiber dry food diet and daily lactalose. The food costs about $75 and is prescription. A bag will last her a while as she is fairly petite. The lactalose is inexpensive, comes in a large bottle that lasts a long time, and is also a prescription. Since being on this regimen Noel has passed stool normally and is doing great. The requirement for the food and lactalose is why she is considered special needs.

With the medical out the way let's talk about Noel's personality. She is a goofy, aloof, sweet, loveable, petite sweetheart. Noel does well with other cats and also with the foster family's dog. She loves to play, especially with laser and string toys. At night she sleeps with her foster family, giving gentle taps with her paw when she wants pets. Due to her condition Noel is rather petite, but makes up for it with a big personality. She has a kink at the end of her little tail but that just adds to her special charm. After a rough start, a long recovery road, and careful monitoring to ensure she's Ok, Noel is ready to start on her next journey with her furever family where she will bring joy and love as she had done her whole life.
