Nochelina's Story

Hi, my name is Nochelina and I am a 6-year-old female with one of the most stunning and unusual coats you will ever see — I am a very rare black smoke tabby. My fur looks like soft silver mist under sunlight and deep midnight in the shade. ✨

I was born and raised along the beautiful Paseo del Morro trail in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, where I lived as part of a community cat colony. The volunteers of Save a Gato noticed right away that I wasn’t meant for life on the streets — I am extremely sweet, affectionate, and very adoptable — so they rescued me and brought me into foster care.

Right now, the National Park Service is in a legal dispute with Save a Gato over the future of the cats who live along the Paseo del Morro trail. If the Park Service prevails, the cats who remain there face permanent removal — and sadly, that removal would mean euthanasia.

Because of this, the volunteers are working urgently to find loving homes for cats like me, so we never have to face that fate.

Another important part of my story is that I once suffered from stomatitis, a painful mouth condition. The only way to save me was to remove almost all of my teeth — and it worked! I am now pain-free, happy, and thriving. 💕

Even without most of my teeth, I eat dry food perfectly well, and I absolutely love wet food. My future family should plan on giving me at least one can of wet food daily, which helps keep me comfortable and healthy.

I am calm, loving, gentle, and incredibly grateful to every human who shows me kindness. All I want now is a quiet, safe home and someone who will love me for the rest of my long, beautiful life.

Could that be you? 🐾

Save A Gato's Adoption Policy
Any potential adopter should fill out an application form (for a specific cat or for general pre-approval). After we review the application, a phone interview will be arranged for the qualified applicants for final approval. After the approval the applicant may choose to visit our facilities or local petsmart/petco stores where our cats are located for adoption and meet the dream cat (if the adopter doesn't already have a particular cat in mind). Finally the adopter will sign the adoption contract, pay the adoption fee, pay refundable spay/neuter deposit (if applicable) and pick up the cat. If the adopter is located in a different location in the US than Puerto Rico, arrangement of delivering the cat will also be discussed. We can usually find flight angels to bring the cat to mainland US. We don't charge for arranging the trip, the cost of pet ticket is about $95-$125 depending the airline.
