Nimba the Spectacular's Story
I have decided to let pictures speak for themselves in Nimba the Spectacular's case, and the words of his two primary caretakers at Crash's to paint the picture of the cat you now see before you. In part, I am taking the easy way out with this biography, because simply telling his tales of woe is like reliving my ordeal and his trauma all over again. If I am being completely honest, the thought of putting into words all that he and I went through is exhausting, and emotionally draining. We both fought extremely hard to get to the point where we are today, so I think we deserve a bit of a break. Let's just say that his medical record already rivals one of a more seasoned cat who has been around the block quite often, which speaks volumes as to what this lovely boy has endured and triumphed over.
"When I first met Nimba at the clinic, I seriously couldn't believe my eyes. Just looking at his raw, beet red skin and painful sores covering his entire head, his limbs, and several areas on his body, I was sure he wouldn't be with us long. Boy, was I wrong! With Dr. Jen's determination to "right the wrongs", and his incredible strong desire to live, he sure proved me to be to be incorrect. It took weeks and weeks of healing, which included (but was not limited to): repeated trips to the clinic, lots of medicated baths, in-depth research, and diagnostics, too many treatments to count, and a multitude of different medications, not only for his rip-roaring skin infection, but for a life-threatening anemia he developed--but he made his comeback! And the transformation that occurred before our eyes was nothing short of remarkable!
This 2-year-old boy, who came to Dr. Jen at Feline Wellness Center on July 21st, 2023, is extremely full of life, and is always on the move, as if he can't waste another second. He is sooo very handsome! He now sports his gorgeous ginger coat and has quite a charming personality to match. He loves to run, play, and wrestle with his buddies. He is most definitely going to need someone that is ready to keep him entertained and understands that he is VERY busy. He'd do great in a home with other active cats and possibly even a younger playful dog.
Nimba, he is a unique cat to say the least! I've met a lot of cats in my life, and he is at the top of the list as far as personality goes. He's fast as lightning, funny, and will for sure keep you on your toes. He exudes confidence as he struts around the shelter like he owns the place; this is a kitty who has no fear and won't put up with any trouble from anyone else. As far as his choice of playthings go, he's not at all picky: wand toy, a ball, your leg--it's all fun and games to him! You'll want some catnip in your house if you take him home as he goes crazy for it! As playful as he is, he does have a sweet side. He's a purr machine when you pick him up and cuddle him, which is the best! I would take Nimba home in a second if I didn't have a full house. He is one of my favorite cats in the shelter and whoever takes him home is sure to enjoy his affection and spunk! "

**After you have looked at the before and after pics**
Yes, this IS the same cat ... and the rare bat he was named after. See the initial resemblance?
His skin infection was one of the worst I have seen in all my years of practicing veterinary medicine and running the rescue, and one of the most complicated cases to cure.
I will spare you the nitty-gritty pics of him scrubbed, peeled, plucked, scraped, slathered, excoriated and oozing.
Feast your eyes on the finished product instead!

Update 10-6-24: Our bold and brash boy came back to us after almost a full year in a home with a doting couple. The problem was that he became very attached to the man in the house, and did not want to share him with his wife, so I feel that he needs to be in a single person home. Nimba has a very strong personality and is not shy about letting you know. He can be unpredictable at times, but with some time and patience he will once again become a very nice companion. He definitely doesn't like to be fussed over or picked up, but would most likely warm up to someone on his own terms once he gains their trust. He's a beautiful cat and I hope he finds his forever person very soon!
