Nimba the Spectacular - Bonded Buddy Program's Story
Nimba the Spectacular
For Nimba’s story, I’ve decided to let the photos do much of the talking—and to allow the words of his two primary caretakers at Crash’s to fill in the rest. Truthfully, part of this is me taking the easy way out. Retelling Nimba’s early days feels like reliving both his trauma and my own, and if I’m being completely honest, putting it all into words is exhausting and emotionally draining.
We both fought extremely hard to get where we are today, and I think we’ve earned a bit of a break.
Suffice it to say, Nimba’s medical record already rivals that of a much older, far more “seasoned” cat—an impressive (and sobering) testament to what this boy has endured and ultimately triumphed over.
________________________________________
“When I first met Nimba at the clinic, I seriously couldn’t believe my eyes. Just looking at his raw, beet-red skin and the painful sores covering his entire head, limbs, and multiple areas of his body, I was certain he wouldn’t be with us long. Boy, was I wrong!”
“With Dr. Jen’s determination to ‘right the wrongs,’ and Nimba’s incredible will to live, he proved me completely incorrect. Weeks and weeks of healing followed—repeated clinic visits, countless medicated baths, extensive research and diagnostics, more treatments than I can count, and a multitude of medications—not only for his raging skin infection, but also for a life-threatening anemia that developed along the way.”
“And yet—he made his comeback. The transformation we witnessed was nothing short of remarkable.”
________________________________________
Born in the summer of 2019, Nimba first arrived at Feline Wellness Center on July 21st, 2023, and today he is bursting with life—always on the move, as if he refuses to waste a single second. He is so handsome, now sporting a gorgeous ginger coat and a personality just as striking.
Nimba loves to run, play, and wrestle with his buddies. He is a very busy cat and will absolutely need a home that understands and embraces his high-energy lifestyle. He would thrive with other active cats and may even do well with a playful, cat-savvy younger dog.
________________________________________
“Nimba is a unique cat, to say the least. I’ve met a lot of cats in my life, and he ranks at the very top when it comes to personality. He’s fast as lightning, hilarious, and guaranteed to keep you on your toes.”
“He struts around the shelter like he owns the place—confident, fearless, and unwilling to tolerate nonsense from anyone. His toy preferences? Not picky. Wand toy, ball, your leg—it’s all fair game. You’ll want catnip on hand; he goes absolutely wild for it.”
“And yet, despite all that spice, he has a very sweet side. He’s a purr machine when you pick him up and cuddle him, and it’s the best. I’d take him home in a heartbeat if my house weren’t already full. He’s one of my favorite cats here, and whoever adopts him will be incredibly lucky.”
________________________________________
After You’ve Seen the Before & After Photos
Yes—this is the same cat.
And yes—he was named after the rare bat.
You can see the resemblance now, right?
His skin infection was among the worst I have seen in all my years practicing veterinary medicine and running this rescue, and it remains one of the most complicated cases I’ve ever successfully treated. I’ll spare you the truly graphic images of him scrubbed, peeled, plucked, scraped, slathered, excoriated, and oozing.
Instead, feast your eyes on the finished product.
________________________________________
Update: 10/6/24
Our bold and brash boy returned to us after nearly a year in a loving home with a devoted couple. Unfortunately, Nimba became extremely attached to the man in the household and did not want to share him with his wife. Because of this, we believe Nimba would do best in a single-person home.
He has a strong personality and is never shy about expressing his opinions. While he can be unpredictable at times, with patience and consistency he can once again become a wonderful companion. Nimba does not enjoy being fussed over or picked up, but he will warm up on his own terms once trust is established.
He is a stunning cat, and we hope he finds his person very soon.
________________________________________
One More Important Discovery
We’ve learned that Nimba truly thrives with a feline buddy—and he personally chose Doug Judy as his ride-or-die companion.
Doug has some underlying health issues, but he is part of a special adoption program that includes fully covered ongoing medical care. And through our Bonded Buddy Program, you pay the adoption fee for one cat—but take two home.
Double the cats.
Double the personality.
One incredible opportunity.
