Meet Niki

Niki was surrendered to our shelter because she was not using the litterbox. Her previous owners did extensive testing to make she there was nothing medically wrong with Niki. The tests came back normal and so she was diagnosed with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, or FLUTD. She has been using the litter box normally since being in the shelter.

FLUTD is caused when cats are stressed. Stress can be many things: another cat, loud noises, children, dogs, lack of stimulation, litter type, and cleanliness of litter.

The most important things that you can do in your house is to have 2 litter boxes in a quiet area, away from the busyness of the house. Niki needs to have play time and affection. it would be ideal for her to remain on a prescription urinary diet. Please refer to the FLUTD handout for more information on the condition.

If Niki is having problems in your house, please contact the shelter manager at 941-747-8808 ext 319 and we can try to help.
