Nick's Story

Have you seen the movie Inside Out? Do you remember that little purple guy, Fear? Yeah, that can be me sometimes. I would do best in a quiet, stable environment with a routine. I also admit that I am not the smartest cat out there, but I do know my name and my favorite word is “good boy.” When you tell me that I am a good boy, I love to purr and purr, I’ll talk to you and give you the best cuddles. And I like kisses too; lots of kisses. Just about every form of lovin’ is good to me. Everyone at the WGCAA says that I am the sweetest boy and that my love knows no bounds.

What else you need to know:

Nick is very kind to other animals and would be a good companion for another elderly pet.

Nick did have an upper respiratory infection as a kitten. Although he recovered and there is no concern about him being contagious, he can sometimes wake up with a snotty nose and goopy eyes. His symptoms can be compared to allergy symptoms and you may have to clean his eye boogers or wipe his nose for him from time to time. If his symptoms worsen beyond that, he may need a checkup at the vet for some medicine to get him over his “allergy” hump.

Nick also has the bad habit of overgrooming when stressed. This excessive grooming can lead to sores on his skin. More playtime and cuddles should help. If he does overgroom himself until he has a sore, it can be kept clean with water and the gentle application of a washcloth.

And…here’s the big one…Nick sometimes urinates outside the litterbox. It is uncertain if this behavior is purely due to some sort of stressful event or if there are other behavioral factors. Medically there has been no evidence of urinary crystals or a urinary tract infection. Nick has lived with a large group of cats all his life and our facilities can not offer him an environment where we can prevent arguments between our cats 100% of the time. There is the possibility that once adopted into a stable environment where he has one or two other housemates, the inappropriate urination could improve, but it is not a guarantee.
