MY COUSIN VINNY's Story
My Cousin Vinny
7 years old • FIV+ • Gentle soul with a soft spot for kids

Seven-year-old, FIV+ My Cousin Vinny first entered rescue life in late December of 2022 when he was taken in by Jody N., where he remained until early November of 2023. From the start, it was clear that Vinny was terrified and completely out of his element. He struggled to adjust for quite some time—until one very special visitor changed everything.

The little girl from next door stopped by one day, and Vinny immediately took to her. The two became instant best friends. Jody shared that he lived for her visits, perking up at the mere sound of her voice. That bond proved to be very real when she later came to visit him at Crash’s after his transition there—it was truly heartwarming to witness. Though Izzy was heartbroken to hear Vinny would be moving again in hopes of finding his forever home, she ultimately gave her stamp of approval once she saw how happy and comfortable he was with us.

Our initial write-up about Vinny read:

“My Cousin Vinny is without a doubt one of our more shy cats. He prefers to stay hunkered down in his favorite cubby where he feels most comfortable. He allows us to pick him up, do his cat checks, and hold him, but you can tell he isn’t quite accustomed to all of it yet. I’ve been working with him by keeping him near me during the day, holding him more, and giving him extra attention.

I haven’t seen him interact much with the other cats, but he has never shown any aggression and previously shared space with other kitties at Jody’s. I believe he could do well with a feline friend. I would love nothing more than for him to find a very quiet home with one or two people—somewhere he can go at his own pace and come forward when he feels brave enough. He is incredibly sweet-natured, as evidenced by his connection with darling Izzy. It would be amazing if he could bond with another young girl and become her constant companion. He has certainly shown his affinity for ‘yutes’—or shall we say, youths—and there would be nothing more fitting than giving him a sidekick kid in honor of his first love.”

In late November of 2023, Vinny’s wish came true when a wonderful woman visited and fell head-over-heels for this shy boy. She adopted him alongside an outgoing female named Sari, who helped draw him out of his shell and taught him how to be a little braver. The two lived happily together through December of 2025, until tragedy struck and their beloved mom passed away suddenly.

As a result, My Cousin Vinny and Sari welcomed the new year back with us.

The first few days after his return, Vinny was understandably heartbroken and withdrawn. But as the days passed, he began seeking us out again—asking for pets, affection, and the reassurance he so deeply needs. He has truly blossomed from the skittish cat we once knew, thanks to the love and stability of a real home.

Sadly, because Sari is Feline Leukemia positive and Vinny is not, they cannot be housed together at our facility. The good news? Vinny has already found a few furry pals to lounge with in The Gallery, while Sari is absolutely thriving in The Clubhouse.

My Cousin Vinny is a deeply gentle, sensitive boy who loves quietly but profoundly. He is searching once more for a calm, understanding home—ideally with a kind-hearted human (or perhaps another special kid) who will let him move at his own pace and remind him that love can last forever.
