Meet Mugsy
Mugsy is a big beautiful guy who is scared but loves to be petted. He leans into my hand when I'm scratching his head and ears and lets me scratch all down his back. He has even started licking my fingers when I'm petting him.
Mugsy has come a long way but will need someone very patient and willing to work with him to help bring out the wonderful house pet we know is inside him.
Mugsy is FIV+. Don't let his FIV status scare you! FIV is Feline Immunodeficiency Virus, which slowly weakens a cat's immune system over the years, making them more prone to infections. A cat who tests positive will have a powerful immune system for many years and with a lot of love, a well-balanced diet, good vet care at least once a year, and kept inside, they can live long, healthy lives! It can be passed on to other cats, but not to humans or canines, by blood contact due to deep bite wounds or cuts and can't be passed on through casual contact, mutual grooming, sneezing or sharing food bowls & litter boxes. Positive cats can live with other cats as long as they're not cats who'd try to fight them and would welcome the cat into their home.
Mugsy's adoption contract includes a signed agreement to never declaw him and the stipulation that he must be an indoor cat and if for any reason his new family can't keep him, they'll return him to our rescue.
