Mr. Ferguson (formerly known as Tux)'s Story
Meet Mr. Ferguson (formerly known as Tux)!

Ferguson is a sensitive, observant boy with a sweet and endearing personality that shines through once he starts to feel safe. He appreciates his personal space, and earning his trust is a gradual but rewarding journey.

When Ferguson first arrives in a new home, he may be nervous and find a safe spot to hide. At first, he might only come out after you have gone to bed, and prefer to eat and use the litter box when no one is nearby. He is still getting to know himself and his surroundings and still a little can be bit scared of humans and feeling nervous when someone is nearby. He is not comfortable for people to pet him or get too close to him at this time and is looking for a forever home to continue the training process from where his foster has left off.

With time, patience, and a predictable routine, he gradually becomes more comfortable. He may start by eating while you sit quietly at a distance, then eventually feel safe enough to keep eating as you walk past—just looking up to check on you instead of hiding. These steps can take weeks or months, so he needs someone who will let him move at his own pace. Ferguson would do well in a quiet household that would allow him the time he needs to blossom.

As his confidence grows, you’ll get to see more of his adorable side: exploring while you’re nearby, rolling onto his back to play, making little air biscuits, and coming over to sniff you. Gentle encouragement, respect for his boundaries, and plenty of space help him build trust.

Ferguson enjoys nighttime zoomies and playing with toys, so a few cat-safe toys left out overnight will keep him entertained. He also responds well to treats as rewards for brave moments. He has even learned to come out during your mealtimes and sit a little distance away, watching hopefully for a snack!

His ideal home would be quiet, with a patient, loving adopter who can offer a consistent routine and continue helping him build confidence through gentle, positive reinforcement. He will also need several cozy hiding spots around the home where he can retreat whenever he wants some privacy or needs to feel safe.

Over the past few months, we’ve seen steady, encouraging progress. Ferguson has so much potential to become a more confident, affectionate companion. If you appreciate the joy of earning a shy cat’s trust and celebrating each little milestone, he could be a wonderful match for you.

Like all ACR cats, Ferguson is up-to-date on vaccines and has been treated for fleas and parasites. He is also FIV/FeLV negative.
