Mr. Ears McGee (FIV+)'s Story

Mr. Ears had been hanging around as a stray in Woodsville for quite some time. A wonderful couple had borrowed a Havahart trap a few times to catch some of the stray cats near their home (who were then brought to us for spay/neuter and rehoming), but for months, they were just never able to lure stubborn Mr. Ears into the trap (so named because, even from a distance, you could tell he had something going on with his ears).

At the end of February, we received an exciting message - Mr. Ears McGee had finally been caught! It was a good thing too - the poor guy had bad ear infections, nasty scabs from scratching at his ears (likely due to ear mites and the infections), and severe dental issues. To top it all off, he was also FIV+ and not neutered.

Mr. Ears was pretty avoidant and crabby at first, and we were unsure whether he was feral or just really scared. Fast-forward to today, and he has now started demanding treats and learned to REALLY love catnip toys. He also enjoys scritches and pets, and will return your fistbump with a sweet headbutt. He seemed to relax once he knew we were here to help.

After multiple vet visits and medications, Mr. Ears has been neutered, his signature "problem" ears are all healed up, and he has had his infected broken teeth removed. We can't imagine how uncomfortable and in pain he must have been!

Mr. Ears McGee is estimated to be a few years old (3+), and we don't know yet how he is with other cats. FIV is primarily transmitted through bad cat fights/biting, but FIV+ and FIV- cats can be known to coexist together if they get along. Knowing whether the FIV+ cat is cat-aggressive or not is key, but we also have a feeling that he wouldn't mind being solo and getting all the lovin' for himself!

Mr. Ears is a big boy, and likes to play. Sometimes he gets a little excited and rough, so he probably wouldn't be a good fit for super young kiddos.
