Mr Darcy's Story

Meet Mr. Darcy. Yes he lives up to his name! He is the most handsome and proper boy, not to mention a bachelor looking for his forever love.
Mr. Darcy is everything you'd expect from a normal 2.5 month old- playful, inquisitive, curious, naughty, loving, hungry, entertaining and joyful. Unfortunately, he has a medical condition that changes some of his normal life, but with dedication Mr. Darcy will live a long and meaningful life!
He is a Manx kitten born with Spina bifida, which is a shortening of the spine and affects nerves and often results in paralysis. Due to this condition he does not have control of his bowels and bladder. We have him on a good fiber diet which helps keeps his poops firm and easy to clean up. He has less control over his bladder and will need to wear diapers to keep himself clean, as urine will trickle down the back of his legs. We have had him vetted many times and our vet doesn't believe this will improve, however with diet and care to keep him clean, Mr. Darcy will live a perfectly happy life.
Just look at him!!! He is a sweetheart, an adorable kitten who will grow into a beautiful adult and the fun, playful spirit you'd expect.
Please help us give Mr. Darcy his best chance at life. Please share and reach out for more info if you feel your home might be a good fit!

Best Friends of Baker 501(c)3
PO Box 183
Baker City, OR
bestfriendsofbaker@yahoo.com
541-519-7387
APPLY for adoption here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/B
FOB/Cat

*For more information on Manx Syndrome please see these links: https://www.petmd.com/cat/conditions/genetic/manx-syndrome-cats
https://www.ral.org/posts/manx-syndrome

Best Friends of Baker Inc.'s Adoption Policy
FAQ: "is Fluffy available for adoption?" Please assume that if an animal is listed as 'adoptable' on our Petfinder page we are still accepting applications for that pet. We do our best to keep the page up to date. We are not able to respond to emails asking if animals are available. "is Fluffy good with dogs/older cats/male cats/children/vacuums?" Each animal is different, and our profiles try to address these questions. If you do not find your answer in the pet's profile, please submit an application and a volunteer will be happy to speak with you about a particular animal. "what is the adoption process?" You submit an application at: | https://www.bestfriendsofbaker.org/adopt and then the applications for that animal are are reviewed. References are then checked. The chosen adopter will be contacted (usually by phone) and a meet-and-greet and or home visit is arranged to determine if the adoption will be finalized. If the person passes on the pet, we will contact the next applicant in line. "how much does it cost?" Kitten adoption fees are $125 if the kitten has been spayed, $90 if neutered, $100 if it has not yet been S/N (includes a $50 spay or neuter voucher). Adult cats are $25. Dog adoptions range from $100 to $500 depending on age, vet care, etc. All adoption donations are tax-deductible and donations above these amounts are always appreciated. Every cent received from adoption fees goes toward helping more animals in need. "what veterinary care has Fluffy received?" Kittens are wormed and given first shots. The adoption packet includes a voucher for a low-cost spay or neuter if the kitten has not yet been spayed or neutered. Older cats are generally spayed or neutered prior to adoption. Dogs are wormed, vaccinated and spayed or neutered if appropriate age. Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue pet.
