Mindy's Story

***special Needs***<br/>Mindy appeared in someone's yard in very bad shape. Her eyes were completely crusted over. She was rushed to the vet by her finder and then found her way to BAR shortly afterwards. Once her eyes were healed it became obvious Mindy had a visual impairment. After visiting an eye specialist in Tucson it was discovered that Mindy has cataracts. She has a 30% loss of vision in one eye and 10-15% in the other eye. Consideration was given to removing the cataracts, a very expensive procedure but BAR felt it was worth it to save Mindy's eyesight. Further tests determined that because of a birth defect with her retina, she was not a candidate for cataract removal. Sadly, we had to accept the fact that Mindy will lose her vision. Because she will require drops in both eyes every day, something she doesn't willingly accept, we feel the best home for her will be with someone very experienced with cat care to help make this daily task as stress-free as possible. She is a sweet girl. She enjoys sitting on her foster mom's lap and being loved on. She has been fostered with cats, kittens and a small dog. Although she gets along with all of her foster siblings and does like to play, she can be easily startled and have a grumpy reaction because of her lack of vision. If you feel your home would be the right one for Mindy please contact her foster mom, Dori (520-226-5657) and make arrangements to meet her.
