Merlot's Story

Merlot is a 1 year old little princess. Merlot and her sisters came to us as feral kittens. Though she is from outside, Merlot has very high standards when it comes to her indoor lifestyle. She is sweet, gentle and very dainty. Merlot loves keeping her blankets and bed nice and neat and always having a soft comfortable spot to lay. She takes some time to warm up but once she does she's extremely affectionate and always looking for pets from staff. Merlot and her roommates love to cuddle together and play on the cat trees. Merlot is up to date on all of her vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She is currently at our Riverhead location at 324 Church lane and available for visiting 10am-3pm daily no appointment needed. For more information please give a call to 631-765-1811 ext 2!

SELECTING THE RIGHT COMPANION ANIMAL Love at first sight! This is how our new companions usually get chosen. Thoughtful consideration must also be taken. Some dogs need lots of room to run. If you do not already have a fenced in yard, consider the cost of a suitable fence. If a fence is not possible do you have time for long walks? Long haired animals need a lot of brushing. Do you have time for this? Some may also require professional grooming. Can you pay for this? Younger animals will need training, which will involve substantial investments of both time and money. Please also consider who will be sharing your home with your new companion. A home with elderly people may not be the right fit for a large, high energy dog. A home with very young children may not be the right fit for very young puppies or kittens. Do you have other pets in your home? We test our shelter animals for general compatibility but recommend that if you have existing pets a “meet and greet” be set
