McCovey's Story

McCovey is a handsome orange tabby with a motorboat purr who was born in September 2018. He has a sweet but vague disposition. McCovey has severe developmental delays; he has difficulty figuring things out and his long term memory is very poor. He will need a kind, understanding family able to accept him for who he is and willing to accommodate his needs.

McCovey is a good eater who's favorite flavors are chicken and tuna. He loves treats and will even eat them out of your hand! He enjoys the company of other cats, and we would like him to have buddies in his forever home. He likes to spend most of his time sitting in his cat tree. McCovey loves pets, cuddles and brushing, as long as they're on his terms.

McCovey gets lost easily, and is often anxious because everything seems new to him all the time. He can't remember or recognize people or other cats. McCovey has a special room because he doesn't understand doorways - if he goes through one, he forgets what they are and can't find his way back. As long as he's in his own special room, he has good self-care skills, but he can become aggressive when anxious and agitated. McCovey has made some very modest progress, but he has probably reached the ceiling of his abilities and is unlikely to improve any more.

McCovey is a very unique cat, the only one to have this disability in our experience, as well as the experience of his vets and neurologist. Given his high level of needs, we're looking for a very patient, understanding and cat-experienced family that is willing and able to meet him where he is. In a perfect world, his forever family will have a passion for helping special needs cats, and already have a room or catio set up that can accommodate him plus some buddies for him to share it with. Due to his special needs, McCovey will be transitioning to his new home in a foster-to-adopt situation. He is FIV/FeLv negative, microchipped, neutered and current on his vaccines. Could you be the guardian angel he's been waiting for?
