Maya - ADOPTION PENDING!'s Story

Meet Maya, a petite dilute tortiseshell who along with two other kittens, likely her siblings (Tangerine and Ash) were found in a box on the side of a busy road. A good samaritan rescued them. After appropriate vet care they have all now made their way to Second Chance where the only box they will use again is for potty.

Maya has an irregular wobbly gait. She displays a mild form of Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH). This is a congenital neurological condition that affects a cat's balance and coordination. It is caused by an underdeveloped cerebellum and results in a "wobbly" gait, head tremors, and a wide-based stance. While there is no cure, the condition is not progressive, not painful, and most cats can live long happy lives with some environmental adjustments.

Maya is very sweet but a little shy right now. She appreciates a slow, gentle approach but has easily been held on a lap soaking up pets and loves to be held by one of our volunteers. She and her siblings have been traumatized with being abandoned and then residing in a few locations before coming to Second Chance. Maya is already building confidence and becoming a trusting, loving kitten we know she is.

Maya's potential adopter will need to consider potential fall risks, like off of furniture or stairs. Being able to give Maya a more grounded living will be the best and safest for her. While we recommend kittens have a playmate, Maya's playmate cannot be aggressive. having a cuddle buddy may be even better than a playmate.

We believe that kittens are happiest when they have another kitty to spend time with so Maya will need to be adopted with another kitten or already have a young not too playful cat at home.

For the safety of our kittens and for children, we do not adopt kittens under six months old to a home with children under the age of 6.

Maya has been spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. Her approximate birthdate is 06/23/2025. Her adoption fee is $120.

If you are interested in meeting Maya or any of the cats at Second Chance Cats of West Michigan, please go to sccatswm.org/adopt to fill out an application, or stop in during open hours on Fridays from 11-2 or Saturdays and Sundays from 11-4.

Please note - we can only adopt to those who live within a one hour drive of Grand Rapids.

Thank you!
