Hazel & Maxwell have been at Luna’s House since being found discarded in a dumpster as tiny kittens with their litter mates Brad, Melvin, & Julie. That was in October 2018. Hazel & Maxwell are now about eight years of age (as of May 2026).<br/><br/>It is difficult for Hazel & Maxwell to trust people due to the trauma they experienced very early in life. Melvin & Julie were able to adapt better and were each adopted years ago. But Hay & Max are still rather wary of humans, though they have made strides in building confidence with a number of our long-time volunteers. Hazel will enthusiastically accept “pets” through the window of the Free Roam Cat Room—the room the siblings have always called home. Maxwell will take kibble from the hands of folks he trusts.<br/><br/>Last March, we lost Hazel’s & Maxwell’s brother Brad unexpectedly to acute liver failure. Though also shy, Brad was the most outgoing of the siblings. We know that losing him was even harder on Hazel & Maxwell that it was on us volunteers.<br/><br/>It is our hope that, once in a real home, Hay & Max will be able to settle in, gain confidence, & learn to trust their family. Realistically, we know that they will most likely always be introverted. Anyone considering adding these two kittos to their home would need to understand that while they may warm up given time & patience, they may always be quite shy.<br/><br/>Even if they remain nervous about interactions with humans, Hay & Max can still be wonderful companions. They will approach those with whom they are more comfortable, especially those who speak softly to them & tell them what good babies they are. Because they have spent their entire lives together—and since they may never be fully comfortable with human interaction —we are requiring that they be adopted out together. <br/><br/>Hazel & Maxwell have watched as dozens of other cats and kittens have arrived in our Free Roam room, then have watched those little ones being adopted into forever homes. While they may not be social, they still want love. They still want companionship. They still want a home of their own. <br/><br/>The adoption fee is $200 for a pair, and includes distemper vaccine, rabies, dewormer, flea treatment, spay/neuter, FeLV/FIV Combo test and microchip. <br/><br/>If you are interested in adding one of our cats to your family you can email catadoption@lunashouse.org or APPLY online using the link on the website.
