Max came to Whiskers as a stray and was understandably very fearful of his new surroundings. With time, patience, and kindness, this brave boy has slowly learned that he is safe. He now allows pets from volunteers, especially when you go slow and respect his boundaries—proof of just how much progress hes made.<br/><br/>A mellow sweetheart with a soft, understated charm, Max is food-motivated, enjoys playing, and likes to explore at his own pace. He may be timid with new people at first, but once he feels secure, he warms up beautifully. Max does well with other FELV+ cats and would also be content as an only cat in a calm home that gives him the time he needs to settle in. When hes comfortable, Max reveals a sweet, thoughtful personality and a playful side that makes every bit of patience worthwhile. He would do best in a home with adults only, or calm older children. <br/><br/>Max is FeLV positive, but he is energetic and healthy. Because FeLV is a virus that weakens a cat's immune system, FeLV+ cats may have shorter life-spans, but cats like Max who are diagnosed as an adult can live to be 10-15 years old. This virus cannot be transmitted to people, dogs or other non-feline animals, but can be transmitted to other cats via shared water and food dishes and grooming each other.
